The knowledge characters in Star Wars have about the universe around them seems to constantly shift based on the needs of the plot. The Holonet was a bigger deal in the expanded universe, but it does still exist in this one. We saw it in an episode of The Mandalorian. It is one of the things about Din Djarin that doesn't really add up. At times, he is played as a weary traveler who has seen everything. At other times, he is played like a clueless kid, too trusting of the wrong people and ignorant of things he should know. The former is a serious character flaw he has only survived by the invulnerability of his armor and pure luck. I guess you could write off the latter as vastness of the Star Wars universe, but it struck me as odd that he had never heard of Mandalorians who don't live the way he does.

This isn't exactly new in Star Wars. Han Solo's take on Jedi when he first meets Obi-Wan Kenobi is an example. He is old enough to remember Jedi being around. Maybe he missed that with his upbringing, but his best friend actually fought alongside Yoda. Did that somehow just never come up?

(In the interest of full disclosure, I can't fully take credit for that bit about Han Solo. I got it from the YouTube series, How it Should Have Ended.)

Meh. I don't mind it. Watch him react to it a few more times. It is so damn cute, it will make you feel better.

Frankly, I always assumed "Yoda" was an honorary title - like Rabbi.

Best episode of an excellent series.

I’ve seen some of Clone Wars now and knew the Rosario Dawson character.

Avoiding spoilers... was surprised when I heard the name of the main baddie from the great Timothy Zahn book trilogy. Asked a friend who said the character was in the animated Rebels series. Gotta watch that now. Great bad guy from a great book series.

Mandalorian does as excellent job of incorporating material from across the EU.

I haven't seen much of Rebels, but I did realize it brought that character over from the old expanded universe.

Same here. I was stunned to hear his name since those books are no longer canon, and my nephew was like, “haven’t you seen Rebels?” (I haven’t)

I started viewing the new season late and just got caught up. Very good stuff so far. For Episode 13, I couldn't believe I didn't recognize the villanous hired gun until I saw the credits, shoulda got that right away.
Like seeing the Mandalorian trio in Chapter 11 (and revealing that our Mandalorian is a "fundie" is a nice touch.) I also like seeing the one sidekick being played by one Mercedes Varnado (the ones who also frequent the pro wrestling thread know what I'm talking about).

It is amazing just how many familiar faces they cast in small roles on this show without it being distracting. I'm usually very good at catching stuff like the actor playing the hired gun, but I missed that one, too. I can't remember the last time I saw him in anything.

Yeah, Disney/Lucasfilm/Filoni brought Thrawn back for Rebels and then has had Tim Zahn write two entirely new Thrawn trilogies that fit in the new canon.

Michael Biehn, aka John Conner? The minute he appeared onscreen I said to my wife, “That guy looks like Michael Biehn,” but he looked so different (old, I suppose) that I thought I was wrong.

If you’re an evil empire, you want communication between planets destroyed. That prevents an organized rebellion.

I look at these places in a single galaxy and not in the entire universe, and Mando is working in the outer fringes of the galaxy. Sort of like he’s in northern Alaska.
