Hey GB, I'm guessing English fans have to be happy after today, with Rose, Westwood, Poulter, Casey, Donald, and Dougherty all acquitting themselves well.

It's been a good day for overseas players, but a great day for the English ones. I hope they all continue to play well, it would build nicely off Harrington's win at the Open last year.

There hasn't been a European winner at Augusta since Olazabal in 1999, and British since Faldo in 1996. That's way too long.

It's only a matter of time until one wins again. Perhaps it will be this year.

For those dismissing Tiger, he almost never grabs a tournament by the throat on Thursday. For him, most of the mission is making sure he doesn't shoot a million.

He didn't. Friday and Saturday is when he has been known to make his move.

(No, I'm not Tiger's apologist, though I can't wait to see how many dispute this given the venom for him on this board.)
Tiger Woods has never shot in the 60s in the first round at Augusta.

You can look it up. Yet, he's managed to win four of them.

The following is a note being taped to the front of these three gentlemen's lockers;

Gentlemen; Thank you for participating in the 72nd playing of The Masters. Now, don't forking come back here and play again unless you can break 75.

Love, Hootie.
Hootie retired two years ago. It's now Billy Payne.

Be informed, will you people.

Not only that, there hasn't been a winner open with a round in the 60s since Nick Faldo in 1996.

When Tiger won his fourth green jacket three years ago, he opened with a 74. So did O'Meara 10 years ago.

Yes, but Hootie sounds better.

I wish people would realize how stupid they sound when they act like Tiger should win every major he enters and that he's more likely to win the Grand Slam than not. It's like saying Ted Williams got a hit every single time he came to the plate.

I promise to do nothing but smile come 4 p.m. Sunday.

You can smile all you like. I think he's probably still the favorite to win. I predict he'll go 69, 70, 70. But if you think it's a sure thing, you're a fool. There is a reason why even Tiger has just one jacket in the last five years. He's the greatest darn golfer who ever lived. But he's not Jesus in spikes.

I'm not ready to call him the favorite when he has 20 players (or thereabouts) to pash. But I'm interested to see Friday's play so we might have an indication whether the winning score is likely to be -6 or -8 or closer to even.

Tiger's scores when he won:
1997: 70 66 65 69
2001: 70 66 68 68
2002: 70 69 66 71
2005: 74 66 65 71

Tiger first round all time (starting in 1995 as an amateur):
72, 75, 70, 71, 72, 75, 70, 70, 76, 75, 74, 72, 73
