The biggest stars in UFC history are black (Jon Jones) and Brazilian (Anderson Silva). But yeah white guys.

Flyweight champ is Demetrious Johnson (black), Featherweight champ is Max Holloway (Samoan/Hawaiian), Welterweight champ is Tyron Woodley (black), Light Heavyweight champion is Jon Jones (black). But yeah, it's a sport for white guys to see other white guys fighting.

And as someone already mentioned, the UFC was started by the Gracies, who are Brazilian. Royce Gracie was the first UFC champion. In the first UFC (which was a tournament), it was a pretty diverse mix of fighters, certainly not eight white guys.

I thought the odds on McGregor were even higher than that at first. But all the public money immediately went on him and kept coming on him, because everyone likes big returns and no one wants to bet $8 to win $1 or whatever the meager payout was on Mayweather. Some sharps got in for big six figures to win little six figures, but the sportsbooks need a lot more of those to even out the action.

I haven't watched any fight of any kind in years but it would be a blast to be in a Vegas book for this one. And you'd probably have to be there right about now to get a seat.

Stubhub has some of the higher seats at $1,600. That's low, and a bit of a surprise

This, and only this, is how I want the fight to conclude.

Well, as Thomas Hauser said, if somebody offered me 10s of millions of dollars to sing badly at Carnegie Hall, I'd do it.

A return of Fan Man would be OK with me.

I think they have done a good job of making it look like a competitive match up to people who are casual fans or just general sports fans who don't know much about either discipline. I also think that have done a good job of turning it into an "event" that people will be talking about, so the fear of missing out will sway many. That last part is the only part that tempts me, but not enough to actually buy it.

Yeah that first part isn't even close to being true. But I wouldn't be surprised if delusional MMA fans betting on McGregor are swaying the odds for this thing.

Agree they have built up the hype well. Also guess when people see some promos they are more hoping, than actually believing, they will see a good fight. I think Max Kellerman had a good take. Don't remember the exact quote, but he basically said if McGregor trained as a boxer for over a year and fought a couple hand picked guys he still probably couldn't get in the ring with a contender. He also said it will be very difficult for McGregor to land any clean punches.

A friend of mine who coaches amateurs hit the nail right on the head:

"Now that fight week is coming upon us, let's get over this charade. Take away the names. If I said to you the best fighter of his generation is fighting a guy making his professional boxing debut, what would you expect to happen? You'd tell me you'd expect something similar to the Boston Massacre right? So just stop with this "anything can happen" or "if he just lands 1 punch" bullshit. It would be the single greatest upset in the history of all sports. You're putting this Irish guy into a situation he has NEVER been in before and people think he's gonna do something that no seasoned, world class, professional boxer has ever done to Floyd ? Cmon man. Cmon. That's just silly"
