Copied and pasted my post over here to start the thread for 2025:

RIP hard rock guitarist John Sykes. I listened to his work on two Whitesnake albums when the band was morphing into full hair-metal, and then Blue Murder, the band he formed with Carmine Appice and Tony Franklin. Before that, he played with Thin Lizzy and Tygers of Pan Tang.

Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy guitarist John Sykes has died, aged 65

RIP. He was great. Blue Murder is one of those bands that should have been bigger. Hit at the peak of hair metal, had a charismatic lead singer/guitarist, had the billion year vet Appice on drums and The Firm alum Franklin on bass. I think their singles were a little too broad and not hair metal-y enough. Or maybe overexposure had already been reached, b/c I think Badlands should have been absolutely massive and they failed to gain much traction in 1989 as well.

For the last week, this song has come on the radio station I listen to while driving.

I had no idea, or simply forgot, who sang it. I was not into Whitesnake.

Last night it came on the radio again. I asked Siri where Whitesnake is from.

I set Siri to sound British. She answered "The answer I have is Middlesbruh."

Anyway, I always thought this was Van Hagar.

    Nothing yet on Marianne Faithfull?
I have a copy of her '70s country album "Faithless" (AKA "Dreamin' My Dreams"), which is supposedly the first album she recorded with her whiskey tenor. I liked it quite a bit.
Considering her personal history, to make it to 78 is an achievement.
