The Namesake

'The Namesake' is out on DVD now. I really liked that movie.
I also recently got around to seeing 'The Lives of Others,' which was very good.
And some 40 years after it was released in the U.S., I recently got a chance to see a screening of 'The Battle of Algiers.'

There's a tremendous 3-DVD Battle of Algiers that Criterion released a couple of years back. The supplemental stuff is primo. If you like BoA check out Overlord. It takes place during WWII and follows a British soldier from boot camp to storming the beach during D-Day. The film uses actual footage shot by cameramen in the British army. It's another fictional film that plays like a documentary.

Saw Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller and Robin Williams last night. That movie sucked.
I do not recommend anyone watching that movie.

Although the slapping incident between Larry and Dexter was the highlight of the movie.

Just wait until the sequel comes out (from imdb): Twentieth Century Fox announced Tuesday that it will delay the release of James Cameron's 3-D Avatar to Dec. 18, 2009 in order to give the director additional time to devote to the titanic post-production work on the film. It had originally been scheduled for release over the Memorial Day holiday, a time that generally produces the biggest box-office returns of the year. Instead, the studio indicated, it plans to open Night at the Museum 2: Escape From the Smithsonian, starring Ben Stiller, on May 22, 2009. In addition, Fox has set Ice Age 3 in digital 3-D for the Independence Day weekend. Noting that the release of Avatar will come 12 years almost to the day of Cameron's Titanic, the most successful film of all time, Fox executive Hutch Parker told reporters Tuesday: "This is a win-win for us. ...

"Best in Show"...hilarious. Who knew a dog show could be so funny. Some of the most hysterical characters I've seen in quite awhile.

Is that MacLovin, the funniest character in the greatest movie in the history of cinema, in your avatar?

It's actually McLovin, the funniest character from the funniest movie of 2007.

And for the record, Death Proof was an absolute bore, a rare miss by Tarantino.

Must not have been enough "fork" lines in Death Proof for you.
Nah, I'm pretty sure it was the increasingly annoying female characters and the shirtty and pointless dialogue. It's like they spent more time on the car chase than the actual film.

The dialgoue, especially in the second vignette, was priceless. That was the point. Chick talk. Sharp, crisp, girlie chick talk. Hemingwayesque.

And I'm guessing most people who went to see Death Proof did not want to see "chick talk". Nor did I. What was so priceless about it? The irritating, chattering women dialogue was far from sharp and crisp, like say, Pulp Fiction, True Romance, or Reservoir Dogs.

More Stuntman Mike, less of the girls would have resulted in a far better movie, but I guess Tarantino may have tried a little too hard molding this into the "Grindhouse" format.

I'm sure the movie would've soared had it had a woman having her period on a guy's leg during a grind-it dance.

Difference of opinion, my friend. Tis OK.

You've gotta agree, though, that the music leading up to the jolly smash-up to end the first vignette was pretty good. The whole music, suspense and "leggy" moment combined was terrific and totally Tarantino.

"I Am Legend"...I'd give it a B. Good movie, well done with some top-notch special effects. It's definitely one of Will Smith's best efforts.
