So Close, But So Far Away was a great song, but the rest of that album was dirt.

Every time I hear Maneater on the radio or see the video, I always think DH sings "OohBillySquire, Oooh" toward the end.

Martha Quinn, like damn near every old MTV VJ, is working as a DJ on the Sirius 80s channel. Nina Blackwood is on there, as are Mark Goodman and Alan Hunter.

Four of the five (not Surface Tension) would be among my faves (tho Lonely Boy was a much better video than Thank You for Being a Friend).

And sorry, but Maneater and Family Man suck ass. But the Voices and Private Eyes albums are good, tho nothing on there is as good as stuff like She's Gone or Sara Smile.

    No.

    No, no, no.

In fact, seven best songs on day one:

"History Never Repeats" by Split Enz
    "One Step Beyond" by Madness
    "Oliver's Army" by Elvis Costello
"Talk of the Town" by The Pretenders
    "Rat Race" by The Specials
"Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads
"Cruel to be Kind" by Nick Lowe

Thanks from the bottom of my heart for this link, EStreetJoe. My recommendation for a real obscure video to check out: "The Big Picture" from a band called Y Can't Tori Read. It'll probably take most of you about five second to realize who "Tori" in the title refers to.

    Tori Amos, right?

And PCLL, no love for Baker Street?

I loved Hall & Oates as a kid -- "Kiss On My List" was a favorite for a long time, and still is, really -- but they started to fade after "Out of Touch" and "Method of Modern Love." Hall did the solo bit, and they began to slide not long after that. So 1985 was the end of the line for Hall & Oates for me.

With the '80s big hair, apparently. So even Tori Amos fell victim to that craze. This is an amazing site.

The truly sick thing is I didn't even have to see the video to know that. :-\ Man, it's a crying shame "Remote Control" is no longer on the air. I'd clean up. :D

I missed "Baker Street." Yeah, that belongs on there, too. And I probably should have included Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes."

    Same as it ever was

And Talk of the Town is my favorite Pretenders song. Pretenders II was a better album than the first one, I thought. Too bad the male guitarists started dropping like flies.

Live version is 100,000x better. What an awesome performance.
