I don’t worry about it too much because at that point I’m just opting out of public life for a long time.

I would be quite fine with doing that.

For all the Spanish Flu gets mentioned by bad actors, it doesn't get mentioned that there was no clear-cut ending to it.

You could make the argument it never really did end. It essentially folded into the occasionally killer seasonal flu.

When I'm in a good mood I envision a time 50 years down the road where a father calls the school: "My kid's got COVID, can't make it in today."

"Oh, so sorry to hear that. Hope the clinic will patch so-and-so right back up. We will miss him this week."

Just 65,000 more shots statewide and we hit 70% and open up again. Averaging about 13-14K a day now, so hopefully next week.

Story in the paper today has some knucklehead GQP state rep demanding the governor just open the state up now, saying we're above 70% if you include the people who have already been sick and have immunity (not sure that's been proven yet, I get colds every year). She'd be better served telling her fellow GQP klan members to get a shot so we get to 70% that way. Some of our counties are still less than 40%, even after nearly six months of vax availability.

According to the CDC's website, there are 329 counties in the 50 United States with a "High" transmission level. Of them, 307 (93%) voted for Trump. The Lord and Savior won roughly 68% of other counties.

In the 273 counties with high transmission levels and for which vaccine data are available, 33.8% of the total population has received at least one vaccine dose. In the country at large, the rate is 52.7%.
Imagine that. The places that are still struggling to beat back this thing are disproportionately Trumpist and disproportionately under-vaccinated. Shocking.

I think this might be it. This map is the bluest I've ever seen Nebraska outside of when the Husker football team loses.

The I-64 corridor in Virginia is essentially all blue. Not surprising. We've been at an average of like a case or two a day in RVA for a bit now. Vaccines work.

McDonalds CEO calls eating at the chain's shitpits "dining".

Let me tell you about the last time I was inside a McD and found a used sanitary napkin on a table...

    LOL

I've generally found the conditions at a McDonald's (or BK, or Wendy's, JITB, etc.) depend mostly on the individual franchisee. Some are spotless, with excellent service, clean parking lots, etc. Others, not so much. If the owner cares and takes pride in the business, it shows. If he/she doesn't, same thing.
