Ah, for the pre-Internet days when the assholes were stuck in their moms' basements, unable to connect and plot together. They were incels who spent all days writing letters to the editor or failing to be the next Unabomber.

You're right but the whole vaccine thing hits nicely at a uniquely American problem, that a significant segment of the population does not just desire less-intrusive government but has been trained by roughly 25 years of right-wing orthodoxy that government is an entity actively conspiring against them, in some cases on a spiritual level. Can you imagine the Revelation-y shitshow we'd have if the vaccine left a scar like a smallpox jab with people refusing to take "the mark of The Beast?" I'm not saying they're right or even sane, I'm just saying the nature of this process dovetails nicely with the fears and suspicions held by a particular subculture fairly unique to this country.

The only thing that speech was missing was a long drag on a Gauloises at the end.

    Three things about this.

    1) The day after he came out with this, 2.2 million people signed up to get vaccinated.
    2) Ms. Ragu is there right now. She was vaccinated in the U.S. For the life of us, we can't figure out how to get her the vaccine passport. It's all electronic, through their government system, and you need to have gotten your shot there to be in the system and get the passport. It's not that big a deal. ... except she is going to need to get on a a train in August to get back to Paris. Having dealt with French officiousness, I doubt that her showing her U.S. vaccine card is going to placate the Napoleon doing checks at the train station.
    3) Her 50-something year old sister isn't vaccinated. Don't ask me why. But she was refusing. I don't know if this changed her mind. But the idiocy isn't JUST limited to here.

    On a Paris train?

Will she emerge in London rain?

He got nearly three and a half percent of the country to take action, whether it was a bluff or not.

If Biden could get 11 million people here to immediately switch from no to yes, it'd probably be worth whatever he could say

There is actually a small piece of good news on the Covid front from Alabama. The small city of Gadsden has announced an vaccination incentive program. Anyone who gets vaccinated gets a hundred bucks. At a set date, two or three months from now (I don't remember and I'm not bothering to look it up) everyone in town who was vaxxed, whether before this started or after, is eligible for a drawing to get $5,000. The funds for this are coming from the Federal Covid funding money. It's limited to Gadsden residents to prevent people from driving over to get the hundred bucks.

I think this is fabulous, that it will work to get a whole bunch of objectors to move. Bitching about microchips is one thing and $100 in your pocket is something else altogether. Good for them.
