  1. I'm more of a Juliana Hatfield person.

New Porns are opening for Spoon here (Dallas) in November. Old 97s are here Sunday with Drive By Truckers, Shooter Jennings, David Alan Coe, The Drams, and ZZ Top.

Uncle Tupelo are largely credited with helping start the alt-country genre. There were others, like Jason and the Scorchers in the early 80s, but UT were one of the first bands to gain somewhat widespread popularity that combined country and punk influences in its music. And it carries on today.

I saw the Pumpkins in eiter 94 or 95 and it was an awful show, more for the waves of teeny boppers who crowed the floor and created a mass of humanity pushing back and forth.

And Corgan's bitching and whining and cursing the crowd didn;t help. Someone threw a shoe at him and he kept saying "fuck you" during disarm, it was pretty funny. What a whiny bitch. But, the music was really good. If I wanted to listen to a "nice guy" I'd listen to Bon Jovi.

Lone Star, I envy you. Great bill. Although I don;t know who the Drams are. But Old 97s put on a great show.

Finally downloaded Arcade Fire's Neon Bible and I don't know what took me so long. I think it was hearing Intervention in heavy rotation on the Verge. What a great song. Neon Bible is solid all the way through. Great listen.

Can't wait to hear the new New Pornographers record. Heard one of the tracks on the Verge and it's solid.

I'm visiting my older brother this weekend and I just hit the jackpot.

I'm sitting here copying CDs like a mofo. I've burned about 60 of them so far and I'm only through Madonna.

He's a huge music buff -- mostly 80s stuff and dancier pop -- but there's plenty of stuff I can handle.

This is going to be a good weekend.

Smashing Pumpkins should never be uttered in the same sentence with Uncle Tupelo. Oh, damn!

  7. The Drams used to be (for all intents and purposes) Slobberbone.

I got a review copy of the new Weakerthans album -- Reunion Tour -- this weekend. Awesome, wicked, beautiful good.

Then again, I was calling it the record of the year before I'd even heard it, my love is so blind.

Agreed. I had never heard of them until Jones mentioned them in his Arcade Fire review I believe. I love them, and I was really pissed that they played in NYC when I was there and I didn't go because no one I was visiting wanted to see them.

The things you learn listening to the radio.... George Young of the Easybeats ("Friday on my Mind") is the older brother of AC/DC's Malcolm and Agnus Young (and he produced some of their albums)

The Weakerthans are great live. They'll be on tour in the fall to support this record -- make sure to check them out if they swing nearby.

I've had this thing on repeat since last night. It's really beautiful.

Never heard of Weakerthans. Can you compare them to someone?
