This probably won't do you any good, but there was a band from the early '90s called The Connells who they really remind me of. As for more mainstream acts, there's a little bit of The Shins, some Wilco, maybe a little R.E.M.

They're great. One of my all-time best SportsJournalists.com/Esquire discoveries.

Damnit Jones, you could have at least said they sucked live so that I didn't feel bad missing out on it.

1984 Chicago Cubs theme song. By the way, I saw Jody Davis recently. He still has a big butt. Go figure.

I usually just laugh at athletes who try to rap, but Troy Hudson of the Minnesota T-Wolves is not half bad. His unreleased album features Ray-J, Three 6 Mafia, TQ and The Clipse. Honestly, it's worth a listen, even for mainstream-ish shit.

That's a pretty good comparison, Dedo. I always have a hard time telling people who they sound like, because they really don't sound like anybody except themselves.

If you like the punk bits in them, John K. Samson, the singer and lyricist, used to be in a band called Propaghandi. He played bass for them.

I'm struggling to write up this new record. I want to do them justice. Man, it's so good it hurts.

Any blues fans on this board? I know I'm not alone, but wanted to see if anyone else has picked up Kenny Wayne Shepard's latest, Ten Days Out.

It's a CD/DVD combo and yes, it's been out for a few months already, but I bought it just the other day and I must say, I was impressed with the array of veteran blues talent appearing on the record. After listening to the CD on Sunday, I popped in the DVD of his travels -- via bus to various stops in the south and the Mid-Atlantic areas to meet, jam and share some time with a host of blues musicians and gain some perspective and enjoy a wonderful history lesson for all. Sure, B.B. King's on the album, but so are four artists who you find out at the end of the DVD died shortly after the making of this record, including Gatemouth Brown.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone that's a blues fan, but it would also serve as a strong first taste of the blues.

I swear...I saw Too-$hort in the Salt Lake City airport a month and a half ago. Either that, or I saw a cat who looked just like him wearing a big chain with a "2" on it.

Do you like his music? Cause his new CD "I Love the Bay" is pretty solid. Bringing hyphy back.

Is it too soon to declare "Neon Bible" one of my 10 desert island CDs?
I swear, if I'm ever in a karaoke bar again, I'm hitting "My Body is a Cage," and anyone there who knows it can join me.

Nah, not really. I hadn't heard his shit in years. I remember him being all over Yo! MTV Raps back in the day, doing "Life Is....Too $hort."

    OK.

"My body is a cage ... that keeps me ... from dancing with the one I love ... though my mind holds the key ..."
