    Another thing to mention...

I went to three concerts and a VIP afterparty on Friday night, and there is an emerging R&B artist from the Halifax area that played in the concert with Ne-Yo and Karl Wolf. The artist is Jordan Croucher and he used to be a unveristy basketball player. His disc "No Dress Code" may not be available everywhere yet, but he is a talented R&B artist. Check him out.

    Ditto.

    "Misunderstood" is an all-time classic

"Warmer Climate" was on the album I downloaded from iTunes.

Uh, let me take that back. "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" is a fantastic album ... not a bad song on the thing.

Quick! To rinse the filth off, listen to cd's by: The Arcade Fire, The National, Bloc Party and The Weakerthans. Rinse and Repeat until you don't feel so dirty.

Fabolous' new CD is really good: "From Nothin' to Something". He just gets his swagger back. "Return of the Hustle" produced by Swizz Beats goes back to his "Breathe" roots. The lyrics are just like wow...

"They say the rap game remind 'em of the crack game
That's why they money go, quicker than a crack high
My money stack high, how high? Shaq high
Yao high, that's why, yours is Bow Wow high"

    and

"This my year, but y'all can help me celebrate
    I'm 9:15, that means I'm hella straight"

That last line just made me sit back and think.

About what such pathetically meaningless drivel those lyrics actually are?

    Exactly.

When I listen to rap, it's mainly just for the complexity of the line, not what the rhymes are about, because everything these days is about money, girls, and cars. That is why Common is such a refresher. That line just made me think twice, especially the last line. "I'm 9:15, that means I'm hella straight". I had to think about an analog clock because 9:15 is straight across. The days of the great lyricists are over, no longer are Run DMC or Kool Mo D around.

I've professed my love here before for the Drive By Truckers and in particular, Jason Isbell's songs. So when his solo album, Sirens of the Ditch came out a couple of weeks ago, I ran out to buy it. To my utter disappointment, I don't love it. It's good and I like the songs, but it doesn't have one track that I feel the desire to listen to over and over, like I do Outfit or Goddamn Lonely Love or Never Gonna Change. Anyone else pick it up? I'd love to hear some other fans' takes. The album got great reviews so I'm feeling like it must be me.

No, it's not just you. It isn't a bad record, but like you, I had high hopes and was underwhelmed. It's a shame he couldn't have stuck with DBT.
