NCAA Week 14

How about the call at the end of the Apple Cup? Wazzou receiver nearly yanks the helmet off of the Washington DB, then punches him. Washington kid pushes him out of bounds and they flag the Washington guy for unsportsmanlike.

Pac-12 officials, baby.

Glad the Cavs won, but Bronco was kind of a deck on the postgame interview I just saw. Lighten up, Francis.

This does bring a point about paying college athletes.

Let's say this happens in four years when they get paid. Does the school fine the receiver? Boosters demand he gets cut?

The schools wouldn't be paying the players, so they wouldn't be able to fine them. The boosters paying them or the sponsors may decide not to give the kids any additional money, though.

The time to abolish conference officials for a national pool of referees is long overdue.

I thought it was more a regional thing than a conference thing. Like even though it's called an SEC crew, some of those guys might also get called in to work games in the Sun Belt or Conference USA.
And some of the conferences do recruit from all over. I know a guy from Mississippi who is a Big 12 and Mountain West official.

Excellent stuff. Illinois is down to -7.5, any idea why? That's fine by me for investment purposes but can't imagine why Northwestern would attract any money whatsoever.

Thanks, but I'm 0-2 today with Virginia Tech and Boise both failing to cover, so my credibility is taking a hit.

As for Illinois, I have no idea why that's trending downward. They're on the road, so maybe that's it? Maybe people are pounding Northwestern for some reason, since they sort of played Minnesota tough last week?
I put my bets in Tuesday evening and got it at -8.5.

I put Illinois, Indiana and Ohio State in a three-team "just win the damn game" teaser.

Someone needs to tell Mike Leech that he is a man of higher education and should not act like petulant bench.

He's definitely a different breed. He had one short answer: "That streak is over." I didn't think that was dickish as much as it was odd.
People can talk all the want about a culture change and a program turnaround. If he hadn't signed an otherwise unwanted JC QB two years ago, he'd be on his way out of town at this very moment. This team in particular would be about 4-8 without Perkins.
Now they'll tack on three years and several million more to his contract and his buyout and we'll see if and when they have to fork it over.
This deal is not unlike the Hokies' situation. If Fuente hadn't gone to Hooker in midseason, they'd be clearing some time in the football building for a press conference Monday introducing Shane Beamer as the next head coach. That day is coming. Just not quite yet.
The difference between the two gigs is that Mendenhall has the benefit of working in a real athletics department with a basketball program and others that are rolling. The Hokies are and will always be a one-sport operation.

Anyone else surprised that fewer and fewer coaches seem to embrace rivalry games like they used to. About as much as you can expect is "Well, all rivalry games are big and this one is huge for this state, our fans and our players in X." I get it - they might be working someplace else next week and talk about another rivalry - or they accept they are just a hired gun and it really is just another game to them. You would think they would at least give the fans and alums the impression that it is a huge game and keeping them up at night.
