That's nothing for Mumbles. He once told a crowd he remembered Varitek splitting the uprights at the Super Bowl.

Yeah ... I didn't take that chart to mean "JOE FLACCO IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS TOM BRADY!!!!!"

I took it to mean "Joe Flacco is better than the general public seems to think he is."

Yes, that is what I was trying to say.

Also, a list of NFL records Flacco either holds or shares, per Wikipedia:

-- First rookie quarterback to win two playoff games
-- Most combined regular and postseason wins in first three years as a quarterback: 36 (tied with Dan Marino)
-- Only quarterback to start and win a playoff game in each of his first five seasons
-- Most regular season wins by a quarterback in his first five seasons: 54
-- Most road playoff wins by a quarterback: 5 (tied with Eli Manning)

So none of his records involve something he personally did?

With Joe Flacco at quarterback, the Baltimore Ravens have enjoyed significant success, more than they were having immediately prior to his arrival. That cover it for everybody?

So if we assume nothing else has changed and eliminate variance as a possible explanation, that still just leaves us with knowing that Flacco is better than his predecessor. That's not a lot of information.

Plus, it's his fault the Double Enten-dres took the Sack-o.

Flacco has shown a borderline uncanny ability to play mistake-free in the postseason, at least through the early rounds. The one truly terrible game he had was in the AFC championship in Pittsburgh as a rookie -- and I think we'd all agree that was a fairly impossible situation for him against that defense. Also wasn't very good against Indy in the elimination game the following year or against Pittsburgh the year after that.

Adding in all those games, you're looking at a guy who has a 13-8 TD-INT ratio. Taking away only the Pittsburgh game as a rookie, that becomes 13-5. And in the last two years it's 9-1.

He's contributing more than his share to their successes.

Oh, you mean the same thing I was trying to point out when I posted the Fletcher-Lewis chart? Until the dopes decided to read too much into it and make it something it was not?

I do agree that Flacco is underrated. A lot of these QBs get their first exposure to the public as caddies for great all-around teams, and not enough people notice when they develop into more than that.

I know I said this months ago, but I think Flacco is simply doing what his coaches want him to do: not lose the game with turnovers, be a steadying influence and make 3-4 big throws per game. They're not looking for someone to go 30-40 for 320 yards and 4 TDs in order to give them a chance to win.

Flacco made a couple of really big completions for scores in the win over Denver and didn't get them beat with mistakes. He's a good fit for what the Ravens want from a quarterback.

Very true.
