CrossFitters are the absolute worst. Why don't they ever STFU about it?

I didn't realize this was going to be about CrossFit.

I'm still not even sure what CrossFit is, and how it differs from intense "exercise."

My best friend got into it recently and it is literally all he posts about now. It really does me no harm, and I'm happy that years after his divorce, after some dark, lonely times, he has found something that seems to make him happy.

But as a sociological study it is fascinating, Cultish, even.

Why? Because of the "competition" factor?

Best I can tell, it's not even a competition. It's just measuring performance in ways similar to sabremetrics.

Because of how social it is, I guess. It really does become a community of evangelizers, from what I can tell. I know runners can be annoying, too, and I've tried to start limiting my oversharing. But st the same time I don't need someone screaming at me in order to finish a mile.

I appreciate CrossFit because it promotes old-style Olympic lifts like the deadlift, clean and jerk, push press, etc. I like doing some of the workouts off the website, but when friends asked me to join a box, I balked at price, which is pretty high. Most of my friends who are into CF stopped posting daily about it years ago, so that's a positive.

Geez, I just looked at the prices around here. Are these people fucking insane?

Ironic tht a non-CrossFitter is the one here going on about CrossFit.

I think so. Something like $95 a month, can only go at specific times. It didn't fit my schedule, and I sure as hell wasn't spending that much money for the joy of working out with other people. My Gold's has rubber plates and an area to do deadlifts/clean and jerks, etc., so that's enough for me. And I get access to tanning so I can look like Cheeto Jeebus.

It's kind of fun, because my friend is a huge whiner and always has been about things other people just think of as workaday life. So he's this tough guy CrossFitter now, but going on and on on Facebook about how difficult it is to get up at 5:30 to work out. Fucker lives alone with a 9 to 5 gig. It's like, "Dude, I'm up for an hour and a half at that point every day. A lot of people are."
