Affects a lot of mountain newspapers in Colorado, including Aspen, Vail, Glenwood Springs, Summit Daily, Steamboat Springs, among others.

Ogden is NOT based 15 minutes from Tahoe, though a publication in Lake Tahoe is part of the deal.

Parent company of Summit Daily sells to Ogden Newspapers

I worked for Ogden years ago, and sure they were cheap SOBs.
But I must say that our newsroom (solid midsize paper) was pretty stable and had little turnover. Might've helped that the competition had even crappier ownership. No freezing of positions, either (this was in the days when freezes, not layoffs, were the norm).
    I should've stayed a lot longer than I did.

Weird chain of custody for the old World Company, based in Lawrence. When The World Co broke up, Lawrence and whatever Kansas papers survived went with Ogden, most of the rest with Swift. Now they're all happily (?) reunited.

Doesn't sound like the deal includes non-printing plant real estate, which for a few of those mountain papers is quite significant. Aspen owns a handful of condos in town, plus some prime-time office space. Those holdings alone are probably worth considerably more than the actual newspapers. I don't think the real estate elsewhere is as substantial.

Yeah, if you can hold onto the mountain real estate right now, you do it, because it's insane. Housing or not.
