Is there any point to an invasion? Other than the oil in Alberta, is there anything the US wants?

Both goalies are having outstanding games.

I didn't think Price did anything particularly great. He had a clear line of sight on every shot and almost never had to reach. Canada's defense was fantastic.

Without Quick, OTOH, it's about 4-zip.

The officials should be from nations not competing in that game.

No. They should all be NHL officials.

They don't do that for any other sport. Judging and officiating pools are always a representation of many countries. I'm not suggesting most officials are overtly biased, but it would be better to have officials from neutral countries. They're already on site at the tournament.

Canada's entire corps of defensemen are tournament MVPs so far.

True. With all the great offensive players Canada has, their last three games have been 2-1, 2-1 and 1-0.

The officials from other countries are horrific, it should be NHL guys like it was today.

For a 1-0 game, it didn't seem the US had a shot at evening this up in the last period. It felt like a much larger Canadian lead.
I kept thinking both teams were on the verge of scoring again. Both goalies played great, but, yeah, I'm stunned the US got shut out by Carey Price.
Why are you stunned? Have you seen the way the Canadians play defensively, including their forwards? They were clinical today in getting out of their end. The game wasn't as close as the score.

Totally agree. That was one of the most lop-sided 1-0 games I've seen in a while. And a great point by Michael Gee about Team Canada's defense in the tournament. Those guys did a terrific job of negating the Americans speed today.

Quick's work didn't surprise. If he's not the best goaltender in the world, I guess it's Hank. Kudos to Price, he might not have faced the number of quality shots Quick did, but he made some big saves when they all counted.

Congratulations to Team Canada. If it can harass Hank in front of his own net Sunday, gold goes to Canada.

What do you think the odds are that a nation that can't produce enough hockey players to compete at this level would produce Olympic calibre officials?

I'm not suggesting officials from, say, Andorra or Thailand.

There are officials from several different hockey countries at the tournament. Unlike, say, figure skating or snowboarding there are only two teams competing at a time. So it wouldn't be that difficult to make assignments of countries not competing in that game. Let American and Canadian officials do the Finland-Sweden game and vice versa. Not that hard.

The point is that IF there happens to be a controversial call and the official making or not making it happens to be from a country of one of the participating teams, well, you can see the mess that could be at least implied.
