It turned out to be a faulty fuel filter. Normally I’d go with it, but the little one didn’t understand.

On top of everything, they get us back on, do the checks and clear it. But we have to wait 20 minutes for them to print a report.

Had a six-hour delay once on a red-eye going east. Then again, I didn't have a little one to look after in the process ... and the person at the destination made the delay merely a short wait.

Just make sure the kid doesn't get the alcohol, SS. Sleeping naturally is probably preferable for all parties.

    Oh for sure.

Little man isn’t quite at the point where we can distract him with cartoons and he loves to move. So the flight was a little frustrating at times and I briefly wished I ignored the age warnings on the melatonin bottles, but we made it.

Hoping the next plane flight we can use suitable distractions so he isn’t as frustrated.

I flew with a three-year old in July, scared to death of what he might do. Instead, he was perfect. Clenched my wrist at take-off, but then fell asleep the minute we reached cruising altitude. During layovers in Miami we stuffed him full of empanadas. In all four flights the people around us at landing asked, “There was a kid here?” I’ve never been more relieved in my life.

A few years ago, we had a six-hour delay on a flight to Honolulu, then on to Kona. They claimed a mechanical problem was the reason for the delay. But the next gate over also had a Honolulu flight with a similar delay. A couple of gates from there was a direct to Maui, also delayed. Across the way, flights to Chicago and Vegas were experiencing lengthy delays. One guy in our boarding area had a friend who was a mechanic for this airline (American, I think). The guy called his friend and asked what's going on. Friend said, "Labor dispute ... gotta go."
Pretty obvious the mechanics servicing the plane were doing their jobs and the last thing they did was disconnect a wire or something, so a warning light would come on.
