Black robe and a red hat
Come on fill up the tank, let's go for a ride
I don't care about no Gulf of Mexico
I've got so much left to do with my life

Black heart in a white man
Come on fill up the tank, let's go for a ride
Sure like to feel some pride
But this place just makes me feel sad inside

Sadly, there is nowhere to take asylum.

Counterpoint: Being proficient using a computer is a more important skill today than it was in the 1980s.

I would like our new hires be able to use Power Point and Excel, rather than writing in cursive.
One issue with this is, use of phones doesn't develop the typing skills so valuable in most software applications. I've interviewed young adults for jobs requiring typing skills, and even though they might have texting thumbs of lightning, the ability to maneuver around a standard keyboard was rare.

Donald Trump is a vampire. That is why he only held power when people invited him into the (White) house. That is why her wears so much makeup....to protect him from the sun. That is why he is never seen with a cross. In those stupid Pizza Hut commercials, he insisted no garlic be used on the pizza.

Instead of gorging himself on human blood, he feasts on liberal tears and cash money from beta tech dorks.

He is....Nosferacoup!

I said Excel, but in 2035, it's going to be more important that a kid knows how to connect a computer to the internet, troubleshoot a printer, configure display settings, update drivers, type, effectively search on the internet, prompt AI ... than it is to fill out a ditto sheet.

Let's keep acting like hours on Instagram, Snapchat - at school - have anything to do with what you're writing. Because that's what's happening. hours.

And phones are not a luxury item either. The poor kids aren't getting some ironic advantage out of not having them. Almost all poor kids have phones. It affects them more, arguably. And not in a good way.

The amount of social issues our kids and their friends have is staggering. It's also functionally impossible not to have a phone as a teenager, and you can't even really take it away as punishment because homework is generally impossible to do without it. You can try to limit it or only use it in communal parts of the house or whatever, but good forking luck with that in the long term. And, of course, most of us adults are horrible role models on this front.

It's a real tough spot. I'm glad that schools seem to be getting the picture that phones are detrimental during the school day. My state has a new ban on phones during the day that will take effect whenever my kids go back.

All schools need to ban phones. Whether it is turning them in to a central location at the beginning of each day or having a place to put them in each classroom, they create problems beyond just the huge distraction. They keep young people from interacting with the people in the room with them, so I think they limit social development. There is also the issue of cyberbullying. Taking phones away can help create more of a safe space, though of course, it doesn't do anything to mitigate traditional bullying.

Yes, there will be push-back from students and parents at first, but it will get better. I know teachers at high schools that have had bans. The older students give them problems the first year, but the ninth graders don't. They start in that school with the rule, so they don't know anything else.

Typing is the most useful class i took in high school.

OK but can we keep the chrome books? Because I'm good with keeping phones out of schools.

Do you have a kid in school right now? Because as the parent of a 16-year-old, I can assure you kids are on their phones less during school hours than in the evening and weekends.

I'm all for banning phones in the classroom. But you'll need to tell the AP Algebra teacher to provide TI graphing calculators rather than him telling the kids to download an app to do it.
