I wonder where Putin sees more advantage? If Trump stays in office, he may come to realize as BHO and GWB did before him, that you can try to deal with Russia but they're not a trustworthy partner to deal with. A rebuffed Trump is a truculent and difficult person, much less cooperative. On the other hand, if Putin wants to sow maximum discord and craziness within our government and population, he'll never see a better chance to start leaking his Trump damaging documents. If Wikileaks lights up Trump the way it did HRC he's toast.

Mr. creosote, good piece, but I can't muster any sympathy for a bunch of rubes in Utah who are just now realizing they got punked.

Putin helped GWB in Afghanistan. Saved many American lives.

GWB showed his gratitude weeks later by withdrawing from the ABM treaty, which had been in place for 30 years.

Who's not a trustworthy partner to deal with again?

The trade war comes to the prairie

The morons in flyover country will finally put on their "thinking caps" when they see Trump's policies could alienate red-state agricultural interests.

If Trump has financial backers in Russia the way many have alleged he will toss this whole country overboard to protect those. He doesn't give two shits about anything beyond his own wallet.

At what point do these people jump off board? At what point do they say, "Wow, man, we just wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade. We can't get behind this Russia stuff."

The other thing I don't understand: How does cozying up to Russia advance the U.S. conservative agenda?

It's the model authoritarian state to which they wish to turn the US.
