They broke their off-screen relationship a month or so before they started their on-screen relationship.

So Lashley is bound for ECW? That sucks. I never watch that show, but I like Lashley. I was looking around online once and found that he's a former collegiate national champion wrestler at -- get this -- 160 pounds. I about spit on my screen when I read that. It means he's put on more than 100 pounds of pure muscle since he finished college. All of it completely natural, I'm sure. Not that I care, I still like watching him.

The thing I hate is they're taking him out of the title hunt on Smackdown. I mean, why the hell would you push him for so fucking long, only to move him to one of the other shows?

If anyone on this thread grew up on AWA wrestling, this item is for you:

From Dave Meltzer's online report today:
The cover of the WWE's new AWA DVD does not have Bruiser, Crusher or Verne Gagne on it. Instead, it has Ric Flair, Sgt. Slaughter, Jerry Lawler, The Rockers, Hulk Hogan, Bobby Heenan, Curt Hennig and Gene Okerlund.

My reaction: Typical of what to expect from Vinnie Mac. So if and when VM does a World Class DVD, can I expect Percy Pringle, Ultimate Warrior, Rick Rude and One Man Gang on the cover? Or will it only be Kerry Von Erich?

  5. Looking forward to seeing Angle on TNA tonight. Abyss is woefully underrated.

I grew up in AWA country, and as much as I loved watching it, I hated Bruiser, Crusher and Verne.

Not to denigrate their legend, but even as a little kid I could never buy them pushing those three old geezers year after year. Of course, knowing what I know now, it was at owner Verne's insistence, but nevertheless it was stupid when they had the likes of a young, unproven Hulk Hogan in 1981-'82.

That being said, I don't buy Flair or Lawler on the cover of that DVD. But I understand why Vinnie threw them on there. The others all played pretty big roles in the AWA -- Slaughter vs. Kamala and Col. DeBeers, The Rockers vs. "Playboy" Buddy Rose and "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers, Hogan and Heenan against each other and everyone else, and even Curt Hennig wore the world title strap for a time before jumping to the WWF.

As an aside, I saw Hennig's first-ever match in the WWF. It was at Wrestle Fest, held at Milwaukee County Stadium back in 1988, I believe. He wrestled "Red Rooster" Terry Taylor. I remember being almost as shocked at Hennig jumping to the WWF as Taylor lowering himself to take on such a stupid gimmick.

Ryan Sonner beat Mr. Perfect in bowling and darts.

And Col. DeBeers was a great villain. When I think of him, I think of the guy in the Lethal Weapon movie saying "Di-plo-matic immmunity" before Murtaugh revokes it.

I understand your thoughts on the AWA stuff and I see why they went with those guys, but when the DVD comes out, won't Verne Gagne, Crusher, the Bruiser, Nick Bockwinkel, Wahoo McDaniel, the High Flyers, Jerry Blackwell, Ken Patera, Baron Von Raschke (pictured), Mad Dog Vachon, Jesse Ventura, Adrian Adonis, Ray Stevens and the Blackjacks be the ones featured in the matches?

I seriously don't know. Unless they had Monty Brown all but signed and moved Lashley to ECW to make way, but why wouldn't you just put Brown in ECW instead of having Lashley's Smackdown push come to an abrupt halt? Plus Monty is a much better heel, and that's not something Smackdown needs.

I really hope they give CM Punk the ECW title next month.

Anyone watching TNA's prime time debut on ... now? Just saw the New Age Outlaws James Gang Voodoo Kin Mafia interview. Welcome back to TNA, Vince Russo.

And when I think of the AWA, inevitably I think of Jake "The Milkman" Milliman beating Col. DeBeers in a Turkey on a Pole match in a Team Challenge Series match held in a studio with no audience because everyone had stopped watching by that point.
