Question about clips

I've been putting my resume and clips together and was wondering what do employers prefer, PDFs or the actual thing? I've been getting mixed signals ... some papers are really moving into the digital age while others still opt for snail-mail.

The paper I work for doesn't regularly save their PDFs so what I've been doing (as well as people who worked there before me) is just slapping the text/headline/subhead into a general template with the paper's masthead. I'm not sure if this is generally accepted, though others have told me they simply put their stories in a Microsoft Word document. What do you think?
