I would recommend any single male makes a trip to spring training and stays in Tempe. It is by far the best party city I've ever been to - trumps Austin easily - and I was there when ASU was on Spring Break, so I can't fathom what it would be like if the school was in session.

Why is it that so many women clamor for a man who's a "good communicator" but they themselves come off as some of the most horrible communicators on the planet? Seriously.

If a guy says something, that's pretty much what he means. No hidden message, no unspoken words. But a woman? She'll never tell you "everything," even when she claims she does.

RE: Gender communication styles. It took me a while to figure some things out. Por ejemplo, "Is it warm in here to you?" means "The room feels too warm." After years of saying "no" to questions like that, I finally learned to say, "I'm ok, but if you want to turn the thermostat down, that's fine." The middle aged women in our office are seemingly never comfortable...they're always too warm or too cold. I finally told them that anything between 60 and 80 degrees is acceptable to me, and they can play with the friggin' thermostat from now until enternity without consulting me.

Theory 1: it's the same reason that we all work for "communications companies" that can't seem to communicate. The law of opposites.

Theory 2: Women are socially conditioned to be passive-aggressive. To put the needs of others before her own. That's why she makes a statement in the form of a question (and a question with you as the subject, not her) so as not to piss anyone off.

Theory 3: Women also need validation. By asking the question, and getting an affirmative response, it confirms that yes, the room is too warm and no, she is not crazy for being too warm. A negative response does not provide that validation. A response of "It's not too warm, and you're fucking crazy for thinking it is" is worse.

Maybe that's why you have women problems.

Tell you what, Tom Petty, I'll meet you at Club Electra in West Leb. Afterward I'll buy you a few rounds about town. I'm a Dewar's on the rock sorta guy. What about you? We'll hash things out and have a few laughs.
