I've had a sore throat all day, going on 12 hours. Sore throats are worse than just about anything.

Usually I'll shove massive handfuls of raisins in my mouth and chew them down into a liquid then slowly let it drip down my throat, and the sore throat almost always goes away. Can't explain why that works but it does. Unfortunately, I'm out of raisins and 7-Eleven doesn't sell them. I don't get it. When did convenience stores stop selling raisins? Especially in Califuckingfornia.

I just sniffed through the kitchen cabinets (I'm subletting) and saw a bottle of zinc pills. Took one. The Internet says taking zinc at the outset of a cold could be beneficial. Also took 2 Excedrin. And a CBD soft gel.

And then I found a box full of herbal teas. Just made and drank some.

I'd rather have my raisin juice.

    What are your cold remedies?

An endless supply of Halls lozenges. My usual flavor is Honey Lemon. Usually keeps one’s throat from going raw.

Adjustments could include downing some hot water with salt in hopes that it helps congestion, followed by the supply of lozenges.

If a cough becomes severe enough, buy some Robutussin PM, but follow the directions on the container. Trying to up the dosage or down the bottle isn’t going to help anything except Big Pharma’s bottom line.

Hope something here helps. Get better.

If raisins work best for you, why didn't you go get some where they're sold?

Walked to 3 convenience stores that didn't have them. Will go to a supermarket today that does.

The last year so I've taken to elderberry when I've started feeling bad. Haven't decided if it makes a difference but it tastes good. I have some lozenges made with it and some soft chews. Other than that, I don't get a lot of relief when I have a truly sore throat. I'll do halls and riccola. I like soft center ones, but only sometimes. The thing that I really have to do is avoid talking, and try not to swallow while my throat hurts because it just kills.

Gargling with salt was the first thing I did. Didn't work. Was dry and parched and sore when I woke up at 4. More zinc. More CBD. 2 more Excedrin. More hot ginger and peach tea. Handful of blueberries. Little less sore and parched. I will kill this dead by nightfall.

Sounds like you're a little dehydrated, too.

    Drink more water.

    Do you have a fever?

Years ago I mixed two brands of pain reliever to quell a nasty sinus infection. That's as far as I go with home remedies.

But it's well known that if you amputate your own toe, you'll forget all about the sore throat.

I try drinking ginger ale with actual ginger in it, the spicier the better. Buffalo Rock is the local choice here - no idea what any West Coast brands would be. Canada Dry as a backup option. The ginger helps with inflammation.
