    Oh wow, that sucks. As a kid growing up in Rhode Island, his Saturday column was always a must read - one of those whimsical, Dave Barry or Larry King-but-sports kind of things that were the forerunners to blogs. The man loved basketball, especially college basketball. I'd frequently see him at games he wasn't covering, just because he obviously loved the sport.

    Two things I remember about his columns (which I enjoyed reading):

    A) “(Former Sox player) is hitting .325. Why can’t we get players like him?”
    B) Bunky.

    RIP to a Rhode Island great.
