Damn. A giant. I devoured most of his books. RIP.

A horrible loss. His body of work will stand for a long long time, but I will miss him as one of the people that made me proud of my profession.

Geez, that's terrible. Only 68. And this month of all months.

I enjoyed several of his books, but as a big fan of the Army-Navy game, “A Civil War” is my favorite.

RIP to a great writer and journalist.

As usual, Ralph's not wrong. Up there with "Death of a Racehorse" and "Sharing the Beat."

A Season on the Brink was the first sports book that I ever purchased.

A titanic loss. RIP to a gifted storyteller.

I love golf perhaps more than any sport, so it's those books I've probably read most and remember best.

A Season On The Brink, absolute required reading.

A personal favorite of mine is Open, how Bethpage Black was selected and prepped for the U.S. Open. His golf writing was exceptional.

Obviously my favorites are the ones already mentioned here, but a few others I enjoyed: A Season Inside, on the 1988 college hoops season. Great profiles on Steve Kerr, a young Rick Barnes, among others.

Hard Courts: About the 1990 tennis season.

Loved both of those as a teen.

He just had one come out last fall about Ivy League football. Haven't read it yet but definitely plan on it, having followed the league for 20 years since moving next to Columbia's field.
