RIP Rob Ford

Former Mayor of Toronto, at 46 from cancer.

For our Canadian posters who followed this bizarre saga more closely, was the destructive behavior that generated headlines just a way to hasten his demise? Or was the cancer diagnosis totally unrelated to him becoming a political madman?

 

I would've guessed he was at least a decade older than that.

 

At least he died doing a whole bunch of stuff that he probably loved.

 

As far as we know, his cancer wasn't diagnosed until his term was almost up and he was campaigning for re-election. In other words, long after he started making the international headlines he made.

 

He went in to Palliative care a couple days ago and the family was saying it was so he could regroup before doing more chemo.

I wasn't a fan but there is no denying that a lot of his constituents loved the guy.

Stupidest post on my FB feed today: "Rest in Peace, Rob Ford. The media murdered you, and that's a fact. My deepest sympathies to all who knew him, especially his family, and his young children in particular.".

The media can now cause cancer, apparently.

 

"You cost my son a scholarship!"

"Yeah, well, at least we didn't give him cancer ... yet."

 

As polarizing a figure as has existed in Toronto in my 50 years, maybe even in JR's 100+ years.

 

What a load of absolute horseshit.

Good people die everyday, Rob Ford was not a good person. A bully, racist, crackhead, spousal abuser, misogynist, thief, drunk the list goes on and on.
