Yes, we should definitely lighten up about a guy smashing his face on a car windshield -- even if he was stupid enough to be on a motorcycle wthout a helmet.

After all, we have the US loss in soccer today to mourn.  ::)

    Cool people don't wear helmets.

Glad the news isn't 'bad,' but I wouldn't celebrate that it's 'just' a broken jaw.  Seven hours of surgery for a broken jaw?

You never know what the actual damage is from an injury like this, until you start to recover from it.  And Ben isn't going back to work as an accountant, he's a professional target.

I cannot imagine how he won't miss playing time.

The fans tailgating might make me vomit more.

"Yeah, I'm here to make sure Ben makes it through the operation alright."

Yeah, Roethlisberger's health depends on you grilling hot dogs and getting shitfaced in the parking lot of the hospital.

Not only is that the most pathetic thing I've ever heard, but whatever happened to reporting the news?

    Uhhh....what?!?

Dude wasn't wearing a helmet. That's about the newsiest angle in this whole story. How can you think they're saying it to knock Ben? The fact he wasn't wearing a helmet very likely contributed to the severity of his injuries.

If he was wearing a helmet and was nicked up with scratches, they'd sure as hell mention he was wearing a helmet. Would you think they were saying it to credit him?

And the fact he had seven hours of surgery lends more credence to No One's theory. As 21 says, it's hard to believe he didn't suffer SOME injury that will affect his availability for at least the start of 2006.

If it was broken in five places, that doesn't sound unusual.

Safe to assume he's likely a wee bit concussed as well.

Not "a broken jaw"....doc said "multiple facial fractures, all of which had to be repaired."

Seven hours does not sound extreme.
