Detroit may not lose another game in these playoffs. They looked scary good tonight. As well as Pittsburgh is playing the Wings could run them right out of the building in four.

Doubt that. I'm still not sold on Osgood to shut down the Penguins, who finally have Marc-Andre Fleury like the No. 1 overall pick he was five years ago. Not saying the Pens would win the series, but I can't see how that series would be a sweep.

Osgood won't need to completely shut down the Penguins because the Wings will pick Fleury apart.

Plus, the Pens won't have the time and space in the neutral zone.

I think that was Oz's point, not so much that Osgood would choke, but that the Penguins are good enough to score on him and that Fleury is better than people think.

Not sure he's right, but I don't see anything in his posts suggesting that Osgood is going to fold in the Cup finals.

Amazing -- the world's fastest game looks crappy on TV.

Seriously, how about deploying the wire-mounted camera that's used in NFL broadcasts? Or a helmet camera on the officials?

Or...a larger ice surface, so we can see the plays develop?

Nah, that's an idiotic suggestion...
If you've seen how boring games are in Europe I don't think you'd want the bigger ice surface. Teams would trap even more and it would take a good portion of the hitting away.

Thank you. At least one person saw the point I was trying to make.

Agree.
Bigger ice surface is about the worst thing that they could do to the game.

Ask Friend of the Friendless about European games on a large ice surface.

Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn is officially out for Game 3 tonight against Pittsburgh. The Penguins will probably be without Gary Roberts due to illness.

I hope the Flyers put Downie in. He's worth at least one goal for the Pens.

According to Mirtle, Nonis is under consideration for three teams, including the Leafs and the Thrashers.

The third is suspected to be the Blues but Pleau hasn't been canned yet.

In a recent column, Larry Brooks argued that American hockey broadcasts should implement the Canadian and MSG shoots games.

I can't find a link to it, but I remember the NHL appointed someone who had worked on HNIC in the past to act as a consultant to the FSN's and other local broadcasters to improve the quality of brodcasts south of the border.

I've noticed a significant difference since Versus took over NHL coverage, and it's much better than it was when they started. I still enjoy getting the CBC/TSN feeds on NHLN and Versus, but the difference in quality isn't as marked as it was three/four years ago.

GB,
It was John Shannon who was the executive producer of HNIC for many years. He now works as a consultant to the NHL and is probably the best hockey TV guy in the world. He was also the guy who came up with the idea for Hockey Day in Canada and the Triple Headers.

Every so often I would catch a game on TSN that's the actual Versus feed and I don't mean to sound harsh, but it is forking brutal. I said to HC that it was like watching a game from the '70's.

And that may be the case, but it's still a far cry from where they were when Versus took over U.S. NHL coverage after the lockout.
