After reviewing the Portland court, it was found that the center hole was punched about 9 inches short of where it needed to be at the apex of the 3-point arc.

    About? ABOUT??

I would have felt better if it was exactly nine inches shorter. "About" makes it sound even worse.

The jump in athleticism from college basketball to the NBA is just massive, and so are the tactics. He's going to be hunted on defense, and put in every pick and roll, and the more athletic 5s are just going to book it hard up the court the second their team has the ball to make him run. If he can handle it, yeah, he's Yao Ming. If not, then he's probably someone like Nurkic or Enes Kanter. If Edey is still 285, then his closest physical comparison is Boban, who's listed at 7'4" and 290. (ETA: I should add though, if he's available mid to late first round, then that strikes me as a reasonable place to take him anyway, for the right team. He's unlucky that Michael Jordan and other owners that scout via watching the NCAA tournament are mostly out of the game now.)

As the old saying goes, you can't coach 7-4. Hell, Michael Olowokandi, with less talent and more height, was the No. 1 overall pick. Of course, it was by the Clippers ...

As relevant to pro basketball in 2024 as LaRue Martin going first overall to the Blazers was to the NBA of 1998

Edey's been terrific in the tournament. Very good college player.

If he works hard in the NBA, I could see him being a poor man's Alex Len.

I don't know if Edey will be any good in the pros, but his "looked over" thing bugs the hell out of me. Hey, dude, it's "overlooked," not "looked over."

Olowokandi sucked. He sucked with the Clippers, and he would have sucked if the '92 Dream Team drafted him.

I don't understand the point that you are trying to make here.

In my head just now, I was thinking, "At least he went #1 in that awful draft year that had no almost no great players." But no, that was 2000. He was 1998, the draft that Paul Pierce fell to 10th, Dirk was 9th, and Vince Carter was #5. He and Robert Traylor were the only real busts in the Top 10, since the other guys were serviceable pros at least. (LaFrentz, Bibby, Larry Hughes, etc.)

The NBA game is all 3 point shooting and if you aren’t mobile enough on defense to at least show a little before the defense can recover, then you can’t stay on the floor against certain lineups. The big kid at UConn can do it well enough but I’m not sure Edey can. His post game is also very, very deliberate and I wonder if he is forced out 3 more feet as he will be in the NBA whether he can score.

Utterly classless calling out Barnes by name. The only reason Barnes was even at any of his high school games is because he was checking on one of his commits (Jaden Springer) at IMG and also looking at someone else at IMG who eventually signed with UT (Brandon Huntley-Hatfield).
