Yes they are. They are, in fact, opposites.
Columbo, when it comes to classical music, don't argue with HC, OK?

P'shaw. What the fork does she know about music? She's only an opera singer. ::) :D

Re: Studio 60 premiere (spoilers)

To those critiquing the sketch that opened the show-within-a-show but actually closed the episode: I actually wasn't looking for that sketch to make me laugh out loud; I think it was just a way to end it on an upbeat note.

Just the fact that they were able to put together a solid cold opening after a week of uncertainty after the previous week's producer meltdown, and the difficulty Matt had trying to think of a cold opening, was a real victory for the (fake) show. Not only that, it was the cast and crew's way to give a big FU to the religious fanatics protesting and the affiliates that refused to show the episode.

As referenced earlier, I also loved the part where they all start brainstorming the opening sketch. It was a lot like a sports movie, where the good-guy team starts to make its comeback.

Also, on this show, I can tell already, this is going to be one where I'm looking for very small scenes, with a classic line or dialogue here and there, that I will remember best. In the second one, I loved it near the end, when Cal tells Danny that something went out and they only have one camera for the opening. Danny sounds like he's about to erupt, and Cal goes "I'm just messing with you. Everything's fine." I think I'm really going to like this Cal character.

Liked the song. My only question is - Why would you get the Los Angeles Light Opera Chorus" and then have them sing in unison?
Is that a joke.

Isn't that what a chorus does?
Nope. They usually sing in harmony.
unison and harmony are not mutually exclusive.
Yes they are. They are, in fact, opposites.

Sorry to press Maria Callas Jr.

I have heard many pieces of music with parts sung in unison, whether it be a duet or a full choir, harmoniously.

How is unison opposite of any of the four definitions of harmony below?

Music.
1. The study of the structure, progression, and relation of chords.
2. Simultaneous combination of notes in a chord.
3. The structure of a work or passage as considered from the point of view of its chordal characteristics and relationships.
4. A combination of sounds considered pleasing to the ear.

And this certainly puts them closer to synonyms that antonyms:

idiom:
in unison

In complete agreement; harmonizing exactly

You are the gem who thinks that the CFL douchebags belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. So, your credentials are lower than a nightcrawler.

As always, I will enter into discussion with whomever I please.

Busfield is always, always likeable. And he's doing enough production stuff where he picks his work well. I also really liked the gag with Josh/Bradley/producer-character-whose-name-escapes-me -- I'd think every live show has moments like that.

Amanda Peet was on Letterman last night. I don't usually like her or think she's attractive (sue me!), but I thought she looked great and was very engaging. She was relaxed, smiling and laughing a lot. It went a long way toward changing my opinion of her. That said, I still don't think she's good as Jordan or right for the part. I had the same opinon of episode #2 that I did of #1: meh. Something, aside from Amanda Peet, is just not clicking for me.

You forgot to mention that she is not only getting married shortly, but she is also very, very pregnant.

With that being said, I thought she looked good for a pregnant woman.

Re: Studio 60 premiere (spoilers)

The line that struck me as homage after a reviewing: Eat em up, Jeanie-with-the-light-brown-hair.

That struck me as exactly the way Felicity Huffman would have delivered that line on Sports Night.

What normally looks bad about pregnant women? Just curious....

Um...she said she was 4 months pregnant, which in my book does not qualify as "very, very" pregnant. And the based on the way she was sitting, I could barely even tell she was pregnant.

The first thing I thought when I saw her was, Wow, isn't she pregnant. It may be only four months, but she is showing pretty well.

As for my comment about looking good for a pregnant woman, I have known many women who didn't necessarily look that great during their pregnancys. The added weight and water retention (which leads to a puffy face), etc. usually leads to a considerable change in appearance from when they were not with child.

I associate a different kind of beauty with a pregnant woman.
