just watched it on tivo last night. i agree with the criticism of amanda peet. what the fuck was the deal with 12 shots of that idiotic grin? and why the fuck was she wearing a dress as big as a rain poncho and a trenchcoat in about half the scenes? she's on the show because she's a hottie. i'm not saying she has to wear something too skimpy but let's at least show that she has a nice figure.

i also agree that i was underwhelmed. i'll tivo it a few more weeks and see if it grows on me.

matthew perry was pretty good though. only once did he come off as chandler bing. it'd be great for him if he could finally shed that.

Oh my gosh, I didn't care for it.

I didn't like Sports Night because I worked on a 'Sports Night' for 5 years and was constantly distracted by thoughts of, "That's not how it is." But I didn't like this one, either. (Big WW fan.)

Don't buy Peet as network president.

Can anyone come up with an original idea anymore, or does everything have to be borrowed from the movie Network and such?

As F_H posted: Whitford is Josh.

On the other hand, Tim Busfield has completely transformed himself once again, and Weber plays a nice asshole...

But to cap off my bummed out-ness... The show wasn't in HD, as NBC claimed. A friend told me it appeared to be shot in widescreen and "flex filled," whatever that means.

    BUMMER !!!!

Busfield will always be Poindexter from Adams College.

Watched it last night with my wife and we both really enjoyed it..... thought it was well-acted, well-written. Matthew Perry on pain-killers was a nice touch
As some have said, I just hope it isn't too smart for America. I liked Sports Night (didn't watch the West Wing), and hope America buys into this.

Put it this way. Even if it underwhelms you, it's still better than much of what's on TV already.

The TV Squad blog was worried because the ratings dipped at the half-hour mark, making them wonder if people were like "Damn! I better check and see what Supernanny's doing!"

If this show dies and much of the reality crap stays on, then TV pretty much deserves its sad fate. I DVR'd this (I'm a CSI: Caruso fan) and will continue to do so.

Not to be a jerk, but a few weeks ago I posted that I was surprised NBC put this show up against MNF, and you guys (politely) laughed at me.

MNF just did a huge, huge-ass number. Something like second-largest cable audience ever ??

Again... considering 'the demo'... those desirable Men 18-34... and wanting Studio 60 to have every possible chance for success... And being freshly back in the business of trumpeting the NFL yourself... Why Monday, NBC, why?

If I were NBC, I would've counterprogrammed Monday with something really, really female.

I wish NBC would move it to Tuesdays for a L&O:CI, L&O:SVU and Studio 60 trifecta. Because there isn't anything on at 8 p.m. Tuesday nights worth watching. (Sorry Deal or No Deal fans.)

Corrrect me if I'm wrong, Lugy, but don't the Steelers always do huge MNF numbers?

That could be the bulk of the explanation.

Sure, but 2nd most-viewed telecast EVER on cable??

Week 1 MNF was huge as well.

They're off to a great start -- as is NBC's Sunday Night Football, by the way.

The point is, even bad Monday games are going to erode viewership of Studio 60, particularly in the demo.

I read Sorkin had a hand in switching Studio from Thurs. to Mon. because he didn't want to go up against Grey's. Maybe he should stick to production and stay out of programming.

I remember hearing something about it switching from one night to another, but I don't remember why.
And I don't understand why people aren't buying how an attractive woman could play a TV exec, since Peet's character is based on Jamie Tarses, a hot TV exec, who used to run ABC.
The can't get a movie bond because of a postive drug test, but could run a network show thing? I can buy that as well. I'd wager money that either happened to Sorkin, or Schlamme or someone they know.

As a member of the desirable demo, I say thanks for putting something decent on Monday nights up against the often dreadful NFL game. MNF might be better, but it still ain't what it used to be. The show was above average, although not mind-blowing. I did go in with very high expectations thanks to having seen the open. I still give the pilot a B+, and I'll take it over MNF every day of the week.

Peet was great. I don't like the guy from Wings (and on another note, I just hate the Monk guy because I hated him in Wings). The writing was sometimes cute just for cute's sake - a drawback. I'm okay with the plot devices of the cocaine thing and the other thing F_B didn't like, but I see his point. I think there are a lot of avenues for exploration. D.L. Hughley barely made the pilot. He's going to be big. I'm in for now.
