Running video games (and consoles) thread

The Show is amazing. I don't think I'll purchase this year's version just because I like last year's so much and I've built a pretty good dynasty that I'd like to keep going. Having current rosters is irrelevant to me. Since there are no new stadiums this season, I'll stick with last year's version.

Thats what I was thinking too. I have The Show, but I don't want to buy the new version. If they have an updated roster as the season starts, i will be more than happy to keep The Show for a long time.

I can't see it ever getting worse. 09 is the best game I've ever played, bar none, going back to the Ronald Reagan 1980s, when pixillated squares fought to the death and when Pitfall was considered cutting edge.

You almost wish SCEA could do Madden, because Madden would never suck teat as it has for the last five years or so.

I have rented the 2K series. Not impressed.

The Show's physics are ahead of just about every sports game. They lab the shirt out of it before release, every year, unlike EASports. The changes are linear and progressive, not merely cosmetic. If you had the ability to import classic teams and classic stadiums, or create your own teams, it would be as complete a sports title as you would want.

Cosmo,

Apparently you have no love for the Minnesota Twins and you aren't anticipating the move to Target Field.

I understand.

This may be a bit of a silly idea, but would any of you folks consider sharing/trading games? I keep my eye on Craigslist postings, but rarely come up with anything. The obvious catch is we'd just have to mail games back and forth with each other.

Crap. Forgot about that.

So I bought "The Show 09" last night and played it online. It was extremely laggy and I have no idea how I belted two home runs. Does anyone else have that problem with MLB 09: The Show, being laggy online?

I tried the RTTS as a SP and have been doing well as a SP in the Rangers system.

I bought was given Mass Effect 2 for my birthday this weekend, played it for the first time last night.
So far, it's been highly deserving of the 9.5/10 it received from OXM. The action feels much more like a FPS than an RPG, though it has a lot of qualities RPG fans will think highly of. Your decisions, I can already tell, shape the story in a big way.

Some cons, however minor. The text is smallish and difficult to read, which makes little sense to me. I'm playing on a giant-ass TV and struggle to read it. No, my picture's not the best in the world, but I've yet to have a problem on other games.
Also, and this was mentioned in a review or two, it has a tendency to freeze. Last night, in just a couple of missions worth of playing, it froze/glitched three times. Twice I got stuck and had to load from last save, and once an enemy froze in midair. Thanks to autosave, the last save wasn't too far back, but it's still an annoyance.

Overall, very pleased. Gameplay is great, and if you're thinking of picking it up, I would say do it.

Another point, and this is less of a knock than just an observation: It's very cinematic. By that, I don't mean it has pretty cutscenes, I just mean there are a lot of them, at least so far. The missions are pretty long, and there's no "I'll just sit down and play for a few minutes."
