Played MLB2k10 for XBox last night. I have to admit, I dug it. It's much-improved from God awful MLB2k9. Once you get the pitching and batting motions down, it's pretty fun.

The My player part of the game isn't bad either. You play just the parts that your player is actually involved in, so games can go by pretty quick.

Obviously, if you're a pitcher, it might take longer than a position player, but still isn't a huge amount of time.

I'm hoping the start of baseball season they put the game on sale for this week.

It's a giant upgrade over the previous versions.

OK, after figuring out my PS3 had wifi (duh!) I've been playing quite a bit online. Mainly FIFA10. Good gosh, it sucks. Especially the team play mode where you have multiple human players on each team. It's like watching 6U soccer as every player on the field runs to the ball, teammates colliding with each other, and scrums of six-eight players forming within arm's length of the ball. Nobody passes either. If you don't get the ball yourself, then you don't touch it.

Are other sports games this bad online?

FIFA is my least favorite to play online. For obvious reasons, NCAA football is my favorite.

NHL isn't bad to play online either. People will actually pass in that some. But that's a much smaller field of play, so you almost have to.

That might be the problem with FIFA online. The sheer expanse of the field.

That's just it, they don't use the entire field. The other players try to ram straight up the field, usually in the middle third. As a hardcore soccernista, it's frustrating. I don't know how many times I've been stationed onside, in front of an open net, only to watch the guy with the ball try some fancy move through three defenders and lose it.

I might have to get NHL. Or a FPS. I was kind of holding out for the next Red Dead Revolver game by RockStar, which is supposed to be GTA: Old West.

Don't get me wrong, NHL isn't a cure-all to those types of problems. But I haven't experienced it very much. You may get some glitch type goals, but nothing horrible.

That's part of the reason I really only play online with people I know (or at least partially know).

Sounds like some of my soccer teams before they get a clue, Inks. ;)

And the no passing? Sounds familiar too.

My parents were visiting last week, and my dad (who can't even send an email without help) said he was getting a Wii when he got home, because he had so much fun with mine.

I had the same experience. I was playing as the right winger and the right back was pretty stationed in front of me the entire game, making runs into the box and intercepting passes meant for me.

I love the regular game itself, but the online team play is no fun. The only way to make it work is if you had 8-9 friends to play with on a regular basis, each of whom knew how to play their roles. Otherwise, it sucks.

I love manager mode, though, and inching closer to reaching the UEFA Cup final.

My fuck me moment for the day:

Go to fire up my NHL 10 Be A GM mode today and find it's stuck on the AHL. I switched up some controls and wanted to practice with my AHL team, but I find out there's a major glitch. If you save the game while on your AHL screen rather than your NHL screen, you're locked out of your NHL team for good. I'm a little pissed off right now, seeing as I'd already won a Cup in Year 1. Whatever, at least I could download the current rosters and start anew. Just a public service announcement for those playing the game. DO NOT save while on your AHL team. Ugh.
