Is this *really* something to get upset about? Having trouble understanding what the problem is here. I suppose the school could have a lockdown drill without shots being fired, but then, the seriousness of the situation might not get impressed on kids who treat this as SOP (which sadly, now, most school-age kids do).

I am merely wondering if the parents are the ones who need to get a clue here, or if there is something else being thought here.

    OK.....have at.

    I agree with this:

Parent Sharon Miller called it absurd.

"If you need to run a drill, you can run a drill," Miller told WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya. "They run fire drills all the time, but they don't run up and down the hallway with a flamethrower.

Same with a tornado drill -- they don't tear the roof off the school to simulate a storm.

The gunshot part might be well-intentioned, but it's over the top.

Please tell me you aren't this clueless in real life.

I think you have it wrong way round, LTL. It is not that I am clueless, but I wonder if the parents aren't clueless.

I get your point (and the parent's point), Bob. But I think I also see what the school was looking to do, too. Some people don't agree, and I understand that.

If you're advocating gunfire -- simulated or not -- for this drill, then I have it right and you're pretty clueless.

At my wife's school, they never announce lockdown drills in advance. Then again, they don't try to recreate War of the Worlds out in the hall either.

Now that would be cool as hell.

Especially if they changed the story and vaporized Tom Cruise.
