    Description:
Sports editor wanted for growing North Los Angeles County newspaper. This planned suburban community has six high schools, two colleges and a boatload of community and youth sports; the importance of local sports here is hard to overstate. We need someone to organize, mentor and oversee a staff of three sports reporters to produce the best local sports page and web report in L.A. County. Santa Clarita is a thriving and beautiful community an hour's drive from Hollywood nightspots and the beach - even closer to the mountains. We're looking for a self-starter with flair and vision. Our seven-day-a-week daily has a growing circulation that now stands at about 13,000; we also have sports programs on our website. Send your resume and clips to llittlejohn@the-signal.com.

THE PAY WILL NOT BE MUCH RELATIVE TO THE COST OF LIVING. THERE ARE FEW PLACES EVEN A REASONABLE DRIVE AWAY THAT ARE INEXPENSIVE. ;)

News Flash: The cost of living in California is outrageous! Thanks for clarifying Captain Obvious.

Well, it's a bit worse in that particular valley. You couldn't live -- without roommates -- on anything The Signal is going to pay.

I know some people who once worked there. They had to live in a piece of shit neighboring town called Castaic just to be able to afford to live without roommates.

No. 1, Castaic is not that bad, except that it neighbors a prison that houses some violent, repeat offenders who escape from time to time.
No. 2, The Signal will not pay anyone enough to live in the city of Santa Clarita, the city the paper covers. Castaic, Val Verde, Lake Hughes, and some seedy parts of Newhall are about all that anyone working at The Signal could afford.
No. 3, High school football is great. Prep baseball is great. Plus The Signal covers some of the top national programs in a number of minor sports. A nationally ranked cross country team, boys volleyball team and softball team are in the paper's coverage area.
