Sean Taylor - RIP UPDATED

Is it just me, or does it annoy anyone else when Len Pasquarelli, not even 24 hours after the man dies, is summing up on ESPN.com how it will affect the Redskins' defense on Sunday?
I know he's a football writer and I know it probably WILL affect their defense in more ways than one. To me, though, his column screams..."I didn't really know this person so I'll write about what I do know -- football and the Redskins."
Am I making too big of deal out of it, or does it come across as insensitive?

Your making too big a deal. He's just doing his job. ESPN has an army of other writers to do up the tragic/human/cop beat angles.

At least he didn't break the story.

My wife's theory: The girlfriend did it.

I certainly wouldn't discount it. In fact, I find the whole ordeal a little fishy. It seems like someone staged the first break-in. Who breaks in and leaves a knife? Wouldn't most thieves pack steel? After all, if it's the same person, they certainly had a gun the second time. And did he really have a knife? Because knives seem to be pretty common theme in this story. And would you keep a machete in the bedroom? If you owned a gun, wouldn't you keep that in the bedroom?

I don't buy burglary at all. It could maybe a hit, but over what? Even if the wife didn't do it, I can't rule out that she had some role. But the real question is what was the motive here.

The police will try to piece together what went on in that house leading up to the shooting. I hear they've seized a computer. Though it's not indicative of anything, it's interesting to consider that they might find something on the hard drive that would paint a clearer picture of what had transpired at the home.

I assume that he was injured, was spending lots of time at home, was potentially taking lots of meds to deal with the injury and was around lots of people during the holidays.

Probably, I should sit back and wait to hear what the cops think.

A.) Pretty sure Taylor couldn't have a gun because of his probation or whatever from earlier run-ins with the law. Hence the machete.

B.) the knife left behind was, I believe, a kitchen knife. One from his house, I think. It was left, I can only assume, as a message.

C.) Talked to a guy in our office who said police clarified today: phone lines were not cut. Phones were not working.

Has there been any info on the size of the knife left during the previous burglary?

When my parents' house was robbed many years ago, the thieves left a knife behind (I think it was left either on a bed or on the dining room table). The police said at the time that they thought they had used it to pry stuff open and not for any nefarious purposes.

I really hope I'm wrong, but this smells like a hit. There are just too many signals for this to be anything else.

Leaving a knife on the bed.

Cutting the phone lines.

Bursting through the bedroom door, shooting.

Taylor being shot through the groin.

This wasn't a smash-and-grab job. This was send a message and make sure no one can come after you.
You and football bat.... you don't shoot someone in the leg and hope you hit the femoral if you are a hitman.

I can't tell anyone what to post on this thread, but I think people should focus more on what a tragedy this is instead of theories on what happened on Sunday night. Does it really matter? It won't bring him back. Leave it to the police to do their job and find out who was responsible. Some of the things I've read on here have made me sick, including the comment last night "this should get good," in reference to developments in the investigation. Granted that was when Taylor lifted his finger and those around him were "cautiously optimistic" that he'd survive (so the person who wrote that gets a pass). Still, was there anything "good" that could have come from this even if more "juicy details" were uncovered?

This is on par with Len Bias and Reggie Lewis. Taylor was coming into his own and by all accounts was a completely changed person from the one in 2005 who made headlines for the wrong reasons. In the past year, teammates said he turned into a quiet, humble leader who let his play do the talking and focused on raising his daughter.

On the field, there's no doubt in my mind that he would he would have been regarded as better than Ronnie Lott, had he played a full career. Around the league, wideouts like Plaxico Burress said there wasn't a defender in the NFL more feared than him. Check out some of the clips of Taylor on youtube -- the 2003 Miami win over Florida State in a downpour was probably the most dominating performance by a safety I've seen. I think he had something like two picks, one for a td, a fumble recovery and two touchdown saving tackles.

Yet, while Sportscenter delivered around the clock coverage of TO's apparent suicide last year, this story has received little coverage. Sure ESPN First Take opened with it, but quickly moved on to Tony Romo's latest celebrity girlfriend -- Jessica Simpson. How can Dana Jacobsen look so excited when talking about Hollywood nonsense when tragic events are happening at the same time? It's just another example of how the entertainment-obsessed media loves to hype up storylines that don't matter while more important stories get little to no play.

I have yet to meet a single changed adult. Just improved actors.

Holy shirt.

Gotta be more to this than some random shirt, right? I mean, who gets shot in the groin?
Someone who is forking someone who ain't his girlfriend?

But... why would she have called 911 then? And she cut the phone lines?

I don't think that it's possible that she personally shot him.

But her survival really makes me wonder if there is possibly a conspiracy.
