Shaving

After years of wasting money on cheap clippers and trimmers, I bought an Oster Model 10 clipper.
This is what barbers use, and I really dig it.
Came with #000 blade, which is what I use on my head, and it is great.

I started shaving my in my late 20s, and after a brief return to hair I've been wearing it this way now for probably 13-14 years.

I've easily wasted $200+ on cheap clippers and trimmers instead of just buying a good product that will last.

I don't belong to shave club, but I will say that I've learned a few things over the years.

I buy whatever disposable razors are on sale at Costco. I have a beard and have for about 20 years, so I only shave my neck and along my cheek bones.
I used to get a lot of razor irritation, so I use a new razor every week. Shave 5-7 times with it, then use a new one.

I tried a lot of different ways to reduce irritation.
I used shaving cream and gel. I shaved in the shower with hot water and soap.

But about 2-3 years ago I switched to shave oil. Big difference.
    I also use a post-shave balm. I think it's from Nivea.
When I combined those two things, my post-shave skin irritation went away.
It took a few days, but by the second week, it was fantastic.

Whatever Gillette calls that think that vibrates and has five blades is the balls. Closest and smoothest shave ever for me. I use a gel and a post-shave balm. No irritation. The cost isn't bad if you don't believe that strip Gillette put in to tell you when to change the blade.

That definitely gives a great shave -- except for the hair just under my nose, which I can't reach with a 5-blade razor. I stick with the Sensor Excel 2-blade razor, but those 2-blade cartridges are becoming scarce, so I might be switching pretty soon.

Speaking of shaving, does anyone remember the Gillette Brush Plus, the one where you had a tube of shave gel inside the brush and just turned a knob to get some on your brush? I loved that thing, and then suddenly it was no longer made.

Yeah, I saw that. It's no good if you can't get replacement gel cartridges, though.

I have a nice badger hair brush, but I liked the Brush Plus because I didn't need a shave mug to use it.

Don't you have the one with a single blade on the back of the cartridge? That's what I use for sideburns, the hair directly around my mouth, and the hair under my nose.

I buy my blades straight from Dorco. Same ones Dollar Shave Club uses, just cheaper. I don't shave but once or twice a week, so I can go a year now and spend fewer than $50 on blades. It's a wonderful thing.

Also recently went to one of those high-end men's lounges for a shave. I enjoyed that a ton and highly recommend it.
