Pretty good article in USAT yesterday about his split with Disney. They were pissed he put himself in Lady.

    *** LITTLE SPOILER ***

Apparently Lady doesn't have a twist ending. So far the critics hate it.

It's okay, he'll make a comeback. He just needs another good idea or two.

  2. I've seen Signs a couple of times. What exactly was the "twist" in that movie?

I think the twist was the very beginning of the movie, instead of the very end. And I mean the VERY beginning -- the title.

It is called "Signs", and since the movie is all about crop signs and aliens, we think that is what the title is referring to. But really the title is referring to the signs that the dying mother gave to her family that enabled them to survive the alien invasion.

There's also the twist of the method that Mel & co. discover of how to kill the aliens.

  5. I wouldn't consider either of those much of a twist. At least not like Unbreakable or Sixth Sense where you could be truly surprised by it. EIther way, I thought Signs was by far the worst of his flicks.

An original idea is no good if its director spends 90-120 minutes ham-handingly reminding you it's the most original idea you've ever seen in a Hollywood bereft of original ideas.

He's a pretentious hack whose films are not nearly as smart as he likes to think. I'm glad the rest of the world appears to be cooling towards him.

Read this very carefully (if you can keep a straight face) and ask again whether this sort of exposition isn't contrived and pretentious.

I've seen him on Stern and he was smug as hell. He thinks he's a cross-pollination between Hitchcock and Spielberg. I believe Time pronounced him the next Spielberg back around 2000.

So what's worse, Shyamalan or constant stream of movies such as 'Dukes of Hazard,' remakes of the 'Poseidon Adventure,' another cop buddy movie like 'Bad Boys' or 'Lethal Weapon' or 'Rush Hour' or 'The Last Boy Scout' or 'Bullet Proof'?
Shyamalan's misses are better than 95 percent of the movie dreck.

Since most "science fiction" is straightforward and requires no leaps in faith or logic ?

    Shit films are shit films.

And "Last Boy Scout" kicked ass. "Ain't life a bitch?" *Blam!!* :D

People who hate Shyamalan's movies aren't opting for "The Dukes of Hazzard" instead. I think he's working too hard to make his movies super duper special. We have a word here for overwrought prose: Precious. Shymalan's movies are precious.

Believe it or not, most people go to the movies to be entertained, not to deencrypt some half-ass riddle.

If I ever wanted to watch "Dukes of Hazzard," I can do so being pretty confident it wouldn't ever try to be more than what it is.
