    Pharoah, not Pharaoh.

    Spieth, not Speith.

It has to be American Pharoah. Maybe him, Baffert, Ortiz, and the Zayads, so people don't get to bitch about a horse winning.

If Jeff Gordon were to somehow win the Sprint Cup title, he should get some consideration. He wouldn't, but he should.

    I'd take Curry.

It'll probably be Rousey, which is a howler.

Pharoah, Spieth and Serena look to me to be the three strongest choices. Heaven knows who the readers will vote for.

    Steph Curry, no doubt.

Serena was a no-doubter until losing in the U.S. Open.

Steph Curry beat one of the three best players of all time for MVP and a NBA title, leading one of the best teams in NBA history.

Curry and Messi are the class of the field, but I could live with anyone but the Royals. Speaking as a two-time winner of Time's Person of the Year, I hate it when awards like this are cheapened by giving it to a group.

Curry had a magnificent season, but somebody wins NBA MVP every year. First Triple Crown in 37 years. Speith has become one of golf's historic figures at age 22. New Tiger and all that. Serena has the best year of her all-time historic career. Through its history, SI has generally gone one of two ways for this award. 1. A truly amazing one-off feat (Michael Phelps, Bumgardner last year, the 1980 Olympic hockey team, etc. 2. Lifetime achievement award, John Wooden, Jack Nicklaus, etc. Pharoah would be a 1, and Serena a 2. Curry kind of falls between those poles.
