Simmons vs. Pierce?

Isn't this a lot like two very successful entertainers, who are successful in different ways, just not getting along? I think both are very, very knowledgeable about the craft of sportswriting, they just go about it in different ways.

Simmons writes to the masses with millions of page hits and big dollars coming through the coffers. Pierce writes to a more select audience, but that audience gives him a critical success.

Simmons is James Cameron, John Hughes, U2 (just for you YGBFKM) or Bon Jovi. They are loved by the masses, but can be open to debate on the quality of some of their work.

Pierce is Woody Allen, Paul Thomas Anderson, Mute Math or Government Mule who are all critically loved, but the economic success is not as great as some artists.

To call any of these artists awful is wrong, but you could see where they don't get along.

Simmons took a Freedarko reference out of the book as well:

Simmons probably whining about this I-don't-love-Simmons'-book review by Freedarko's co-founder:

Whiny douchebag Simmons' is turning out to have a longer list than LeBron.

It's a pretty fair and depressing snapshot of where we are as a society when essentially every critique of a writer on this board is met by some variation of, "Look how much money he makes/he makes more money than you do."

Late to the party, but just wanted to point out that (although I love him) Pierce's column reads like a late-night drunken diatribe written by a pissed off college sophomore that should have been deleted in the morning, not submitted for posting.

So anybody who speaks ill of Bill must disappear from his work? Jesus, glad Billy's not some 3rd world dictator.

Pretty easy pattern starting to show up here...

Anyone remember when there was a reader comment section after his columns? That thing abruptly disappeared right after he took a mauling from readers for failing to acknowledge the Colts/Manning SB win. I'm guessin Bill's thin skin prompted that disappearance as well. Taking criticism just ain't his thing.
