Description:

The Idaho Statesman is searching for a full-time sports columnist responsible for 3 columns each week, largely focused on local sports, athletes and coaches. Columnist must own his brand, using blogs and social media in sophisticated ways that build audience and relationships. Columnist must contribute to our digital presence with video, live chats and multi-media projects as well as backup other sports staffers as needed and filling in with general assignments as needed, including beat coverage of our minor league hockey team.

Responsibilities include:

Collecting accurate, pertinent information by interview, observation, research and/or investigation about newsworthy sporting events in the local community.

Generating column ideas, creatively and persuasively write columns with a personal agenda/opinion/idea on current controversial, personal or newsworthy topics that will be of interest to readers.

Qualifications:

Four-year college degree, preferably in journalism or equivalent experience and training.

Knowledge of current events locally, nationally and internationally.
