    The Herald-Times in Bloomington, IN, is looking for a part time Sports Copy Editor with a keen eye for editing copy and a flair for headline writing. You will read, edit and check stories in the computer queue and also on paper; determine which wire stories to use in the paper; assist in the layout, design and editing of the newspaper and special sections/projects as needed. Some writing is possible, but would be secondary to the desk duties.

    Essential skills are:
    • Succinct writing, proofing, headline writing and editing skills with a strong desire for accuracy, detail and compelling story-telling
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly productive and collaborative environment
    • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
    • Able to design eye-catching, "read me" newspaper pages, as well as graphic elements to enhance the story
    • Adaptable to change, open to new ideas, self-starter
    • Able to prioritize and streamline
    • Strong news judgement; able to change plans on the run
    • Excellent digital skills, including in the use of social media
    • Eager to tell stories on all platforms, not just on the printed page
    • Versed in proper grammar, word usage, punctuation, AP style and typography
    • Proficient in editing and design software, with a focus on Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

    This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree; Journalism, English, or Communications preferred, with 6 months to 1 year experience, or experience as a reporter for a publication. This position is 25 hours per week with general hours being 7-midnight three nights per week and 4-midnight on Saturday.
