Shaw Media is seeking an enthusiastic sports editor to oversee local sports coverage for the Kane County Chronicle, which is based in St. Charles.

This is an opportunity for a sports journalist to step in and lead coverage for an area with robust preps and community sports, as well as a Class-A Midwest League baseball team, the Kane County Cougars.

We are looking for an editor who will continue to grow our print and digital audiences, and who relishes taking chances with innovative enterprise and feature ideas. The editor will be expected to cover events and write interesting local enterprise and game stories, as well as supervise and edit other sports writers.

Candidates must understand the difference between writing and editing for print and writing and editing for various digital platforms, and that today's sports news must be reported as it happens. A strong understanding and comfort level with disseminating news and scores via social media is essential.

Candidates should possess a passion for community sports journalism and the ability to work collaboratively with photographers, reporters and sports editors from other Shaw markets to produce a great newspaper and website.

The position also includes limited page design responsibility, so knowledge of InDesign is a plus. The successful candidate also must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, reliable transportation and acceptable motor vehicle record.

A journalism degree or equivalent is required, as is at least two years of sports reporting experience. Solid knowledge of AP Style and grammar is required, as is the ability to meet deadlines. Experience with the Web and multimedia is a plus. Candidate must be willing to work nights and weekends.

Please send a cover letter that explains your journalism credentials and philosophy, along with a résumé to:
