    Seeking energetic sports editor
    Location:
    Sheridan, Wyoming
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: Negotiable

    Description:

The Sheridan (Wyo.) Press, an innovative and award-winning community daily newspaper, has an opening for an energetic sports editor.

The successful candidate will have the drive and enthusiasm to cover three local school districts’ teams, an active community college athletics program, high school, college and professional rodeo along with a lively agate page. In one of the most-read sections of the newspaper, the ability to build relationships with coaches, parents, administrators and players will be key. The sports editor works many nights and weekends, including Friday nights, to cover local games.

Candidates should be able to work independently and have a strong understanding of what community journalism means. Experience with the Web, updating stories online first and never wanting to get beat on a story are other attributes we’d like to see added to our newsroom. The successful candidate will also have photography and page design skills.

The Press is an independent newspaper with family and local ownership and with print and online news delivery platforms. Sheridan is a thriving community of 18,000 with a college, a lively arts/culture/music scene, a busy downtown and many other amenities, including unlimited outdoor recreational opportunities.

The legendary Tom Cotton once worked in Sheridan.

I'm the sports editor in Buffalo, WY, which is about 30 miles south of Sheridan. I can answer a lot of questions candidates have about moving to Wyoming. It's not as bleak and dreary as it may seem.
