    Description:

The Bryan Times is searching for an energetic sports writer who is eager to grow and develop within our sports department.

This is a full-time position working an average of 40 hours per week. This person must be able to work nights and weekends, as well as being flexible for any stories that may pop up at a moment’s notice.

This person will step in as the “No. 2” on the sports staff, along with the sports editor. The staff also includes several part-time writers and photographers.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:?covering games, meets, and meetings involving local prep sports and news involving local athletes; feature writing; designing the sports section two nights per week; taking photos; answering calls/emails/faxes; organizing schedules, statistics, and information related to local sports; as well as providing live social media coverage via Twitter.

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented, attentive, get-the-job-done individual who can carry a task from initial request to completion with minimal hand-holding. We will provide task-specific training, supportive supervision and an opportunity to grow.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and eager to help this sports section take the next step. If you are looking for a position that allows you to be creative and put your own passions into the paper and online every day, this is it.

A college degree in Journalism is preferred. Please send resume, writing clips, and examples of page design (if available) to General Manager, Sally Heaston at sheaston@bryantimes.com.
