The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, an award-winning daily newspaper located in Little Rock, is seeking a sports reporter for the primary beat of covering and helping coordinate high school sports. There will be some opportunities to cover college sports and minor-league baseball, but high school sports are the priority.

Applicants should have strong reporting skills using AP style, a commitment to accuracy, an ability to adjust to changing deadlines and utilize clear daily communication as to what is happening on their beat. Writing breaking news in a digital world and utilizing social-media skills also are imperative.

Experienced and entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Out-of-state candidates will be considered.

Little Rock has a population of nearly 600,000 in the metro area. There are plenty of concerts and entertainment options inside the city, and various state parks and outdoor activities are within an hour’s drive. Many current and past staff members enjoy the city's River Market area just a few blocks away from the newspaper office to appease their social tastes.

Candidates must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record. Vacation, 401K, profit sharing, health, dental vision and other benefits. This is a SAFETY-SENSITIVE position. EOE. Drug-free workplace. Must be fully vaccinated by date of hire. Accommodations considered.

Applicants should submit a resume, cover letter and five writing samples to Assistant Sports Editor Frankie Frisco, ffrisco@adgnewsroom.com

Please be sure to include at least two deadline "gamers" and two features among the five clips.

OK, I'll be the jackass and ask what a safety-insensitive position might be.

Not to mention it's somewhat close to Hot Springs, which is the Tahoe of Arkansas!

You’re willing to write stories that are critical of the play of pass defenders without considering how they might feel about it?
