    The USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, is looking for an energetic, innovative and digitally savvy reporter to join our team of reporters and editors covering high school and college sports for the Oshkosh Northwestern, the Fond du Lac Reporter and USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin. We are looking for a visually oriented, forward-thinking journalist who can break stories and has a proven ability to excel on multiple platforms with a digital-first mindset.

    Video is a vitally important aspect of the job and we’re looking for someone who’s at home both in front of and behind the camera, familiar working in platforms such as Facebook Live, Instagram and Snapchat, and adept at producing podcasts.

    The successful candidate will have proven ability to engage followers and build an audience through insightful analysis, compelling features and unexpected enterprise.

    Our newest reporter must be able to work collaboratively with our existing reporting teams and editors in Appleton, Green Bay and Milwaukee.

    Among the qualities we're looking for is a journalist who excels at:
    • Aggressive, independent reporting and clear, insightful writing and storytelling.
    • Developing sources to better break news and explain the news.
    • Providing both in-the-moment and deep-dive analysis.
    • Interacting with audiences via a variety of digital channels, including social media, video, Q&A chats, live coverage, podcasts, etc.
    • Plugging into analytics to respond to what's resonating with audiences.
    • Exploring trends, issues and behind-the-scenes features concerning high school and college sports.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's or master’s degree in communications, journalism or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Previous reporting experience preferred; even better if you've covered high school/college sports.
    • Proficiency on social media platforms; including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Reddit to enhance reporting and promote stories.
    • Experience shooting and editing photos and video on an iPhone.
    • Strong communication skills, news judgement and headline-writing ability.
    • Ability to multitask and excel under intense deadline pressure.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently.
    • Strong writing, spelling and grammar skills; familiarity with AP style.
    • A desire to grow and develop a key beat in our newsrooms and communicating with athletes and coaches.
    • Strong copy-editing skills and the ability to produce content that is clean, accurate and "publication ready."
    • Is passionate and enthusiastic about news and content that will work well with audiences on social platforms.
    • Comfortable in fluid, fast-breaking, stressful situations.
    • Understands reporting ethics and sourcing.
    • Excels in a fast-paced news environment and understands the digital-first mission.
    • Collaborates well with others and can work with a team on the biggest stories.
    • This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
    • Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment, post-offer drug screen and background check.
