Other helpful skills: multimedia, copy editing, page design, Spanish. Send resume, work samples and reference. This is a full-time position with good company benefits. We're a stable employer in a good location, but we have some work to do on our sports section and want to keep the process confidential for now.

Anyone working for community sports section with a new sports editor that wouldn't pay more than $30K for a new hire?

This is probably your job he's talking about. Sounds like a house cleaning.

Eh, there are much nicer places in Other than Your Future Home. That place is a shithole.

It's a lot better than Parts Unknown.

Edit: If it's Parts Unknown, you don't really know where it is. I just blew my mind.

If you don't mind covering pro wrestling, you can get some pretty good clips with the talent that comes out of there.

The rivalry between Anytown High and Nowheresville Tech is pretty fierce. They had a good receiver at Anytown a few years back named John Doe, he took a full ride to State U. but Coach Hardass ran him off after his sophomore season.

He only got that scholarship because I chronicled his junior and senior seasons meticulously in the newspaper. I'm not about to cost a kid a scholarship in Anytown.

Oh God, I'm so fucking tired of reading this in postings/hearing it from EEs and publishers. I get what they're trying to say that sports is deeper than just a bunch of numbers, but for fuck's sake, sports is NOTHING without statistics. As long as they keep score and keep track of hitting streaks and games played streaks and touchdowns thrown, sports will continue to be about statistics.

And why don't they ever say that for any other section? Accent/Lifestyle is more than just holiday features. Business is more than just dollars and cents. Weather is more than just sunshine and rainstorms. Sports is the only section they want to revolutionize, even though people have been reading the sports page with more consistency than any other section for generations.

    /end rant
