Without 19, Detroit doesn't become (or reclaim) Hockeytown. Instead, they probably become what the Blackhawks and Bruins have become.

Does he get an exempt trip to the hockey hall?

I can't wait to give spup some shit over this. Maybe now she'll stop being a Red Wings fan.

I can believe the French Immersion story - Yzerman's always been quite cerebral.

22 years. Wow. He's one of those spectacular and at the same time blue-collar players, and I've always been in awe of his ability to go through the test of time.

As far as who he is and his identity, IMO, he IS the modern era Detroit Red Wings.

Mike Keenan may not have liked him (see various Canada Cups) but he could have played on my team any day.

I know a kid who plays in the Red Wings organization and he said Yzerman always made sure to introduce himself to the young kids at training camp and he'd take them out for lunch too.

If he doesn't, he should. I'm definitely not a Wings fan, but this guy was absolutely incredible.

After Gretzky got his exemption, the H of F announced that no player would ever receive an exemption again. He'll have to wait three years like everyone else who didn't wear 99.

I think I will now be crying my entire drive back home. That's nine hours of crying. SO SO SO sad.

    Actually, it's paid in full.
