    Freedom From Religion Foundation in its very name shows the ignorance of the application of the Constitution. It's Freedom of Religion.

    Perry isn't forcing prayer and fasting. Check any Islamic Republic for that. People in Houston are free to go and do as they please, restaurants will not be ordered shut down.

    A Christian-only event endorsed by the governor at a taxpayer-funded stadium.

    Would love to see your response to that if the word Christian were changed to Islamic.

    If the governor was Islamic, I'd expect it.

    Are they paying for use of the facility?

    Does the facility refuse service to groups?

    He has every right to organize an event as a private citizen, if he so chooses.

    But tell me this: Who pays his spokeswoman's salary? If nothing else, shouldn't you object to wasting government funds on an event such as this?

    I'd point out all that stuff in the Bible about going away and praying quietly, too, but then requesting God's favor isn't really what this is about.

    Well if that's the case, then churches shouldn't pray collectively.

    I don't see where state funding is paying for a speaker.

    And if it's all about Rick Perry's presidential campaign, well, God will see through that. Maybe that's why we're not being blessed right now in difficult times.

    Having said that, I don't have a problem with what Rick Perry believes is needed.

    2 Chr 7:14 says "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and I will heal their land."

    Don't know about the secularists, but there's a lot about this country's politics and our national condition that could stand some healing....areas we can all agree need healing.

    Yeah, because that's what I'm seeing here from Perry: Humility.

    Attack the messenger. It's easier than attacking the message.

    Again, I can't speak for motives, but I do like the message...and damn well think there's areas of common ground here that are beneficial to this nation. And I say that if an Mullah came out and wanted this, to speak out against terrorism, to call all Muslims and others to unity, I'd embrace it.

    We just don't hear a lot of that which speaks out strongly against the Muslim extremists. And when it is spoken, it's not publicized as much as anytime an Al-Queda operative takes a shit or the latest Ayatollah stages a "Hate America" rally.

    Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
    with the cross of Jesus going on before.
    Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
    forward into battle see his banners go!
    Refrain:
    Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
    with the cross of Jesus going on before.

    2. At the sign of triumph Satan's host doth flee;
    on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
    Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
    brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
    (Refrain)

    3. Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
    brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
    We are not divided, all one body we,
    one in hope and doctrine, one in charity.
    (Refrain)

    4. Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
    but the church of Jesus constant will remain.
    Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail;
    we have Christ's own promise, and that cannot fail.
    (Refrain)

    5. Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
    blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
    Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King,
    this through countless ages men and angels sing.
    (Refrain)

    Like the war on poverty? Or are you equating this with terror strikes?
    Yep, considering it's a hymn and not a contemporary song, I'm sure you can find Presbyterians frothing at the mouth with bombs strapped to them as they leave church tomorrow.

    A mullah, of course, being a private citizen rather than the head of one of the largest states in the country. But other than that, your apples-to-oranges comparison is completely spot-on!

    This is so much nonsense. I'm no fan of Perry and being the governor puts him in an awkward position politically, but there's no reason anyone can't do this. Perry's smartest move would to have been have someone else be the front man.
